  1. I am trying to decide on which system to go with for the in-ceiling speakers for our new home build. We are at the framing stage, and have about six rooms where we'd like the ceiling speakers to reside, and where I know my significant other will not want to see speakers sitting on a shelf. At the same time, I would prefer not to have separate ecosystems on the go for music listening, as this system ideally will be something that I'd incorporate with my music room for my hifi gear, and to a lesser degree the theatre room on another floor. Volume control, we are happy with iPhones, or tablets in the other rooms. There are a few options but I am unfamiliar which would give the best fidelity (in the music room in particular) as I'd like to simplify the setup as best I can for everyone in the house. Looking at Sonos, BlueOS, or even Roon( if that could be done). A balance of quality to price is ideal. I have already setup a Roon server streaming Tidal, installed on a Linux machine to a Ropiee endpoint, so I do have some experience setting things up, and it is fine in my listening room, but I won't get past the approval comity if parts of this nice house begin to resemble the photos you see of an expensive vehicle with a wooden bumper. ha Looking at mesh wifi to communicate, although could be an issue as the gym area and theatre room is beneath the garage surrounded by concrete. Budgeting around $10k, and I am unsure if that's a reasonable expectation. Thanks
  2. Well, I took the advice and have the Squeezebox Touch. Quite excited to have this up and running! Thanks to everyone who had input on my question, looking forward to hearing 24/96 for the first time.
  3. Wow, I would have never thought the lone Squeezebox would be considered by some to be an improvement on my 640C! How is the wireless streaming to the unit? Any drop outs been an issue for larger files? Congestion etc. Once I invest a bit more into the computer audio world, it seems as though the standalone CD player becomes a bit more redundant. I am curious if most people just stop using the CD Player all together if the better audio quality is streaming in from the pc. Even now most of my listening has been through my aTV.
  4. Hi, I am in the market for a decent (@ $600) DAC and I have spent some time reading through many of the posts and articles on Computer Audiophile, and have found it to be extremely informative and to be an excellent website that I am glad to have found. So much so that now I am not sure what it is I need for my own stereo, that (a) wouldn't be coming up short or (b) overkill for the audio components I currently have. Let me start out by saying my budget is real, and regarding most of my setup, I am quite content with it compared to what I can afford for the time being. All of which is listed in the signature for my main audio listening setup. My main concern involves where to go for a decent DAC, given my system and budget >$1000 isn't where I am at for a DAC, not that I wouldn't like to be. The other issue is where to look for a hi res audio player, as I am currently converting all of my CDs to ALAC, I prefer to purchase music I enjoy that has the highest fidelity possible from now on. I assumed I had the high resolution audio problem in the bag with my Gen1 Apple TV, but after some research on this site I found that the Apple TV is incapable of sending out a signal greater than 44kHz/16bit. There is a startling contrast in sound quality as I switch from an ALAC file on the aTV to my 640C(V2) playing the very same song. This is disappointing as I would like to venture into the high resolution audio territory once I have the capability of playing it back. This now has me at a crossroads of whether to purchase a quality DAC, as I have been nudging in the direction of, like the SimAudio Moon 100D (which I can buy locally), or a decent digital audio player capable of handling the 24 bit audio I would like to enjoy. Any opinions on where I should go with this are welcome, or even comments on problem areas you see in my setup. Any feedback I would appreciate. Thanks in advance!
