Just discovered your site and I am a rank amateur computer audio person. I have Windows 7 Ultimate fully updated on an old Asus P5K with Logitech Z5500 6 speaker system.
Previously, I used Windows Vista and I could hear sound from all 6 speakers when playing MP3s created from monaural sources (45RPM records). After switching to Windows 7, music only comes from front left and right speakers. Microsoft said it is because the music source (MP3s) are NOT 5.1 channel.
Why did it work in Vista but not in Windows 7?
