Just as a side note. My TVC preamp has been the only piece of equipment that has had zero reliability issues in over 15years.

The amps have balanced XLR as does the TVC so I plan to go entirely XLR. I once asked the designer of my amps, Scott Frankland, whether upping the gain was possible and he gave me an unequivocal no! I do however have +6db switch which can be used if need be.

Thanks for your reply. My amps have 100k ohms input impedance and have worked well for me with the TVC. I was more concerned whether 2.9Vrm of the Holo Audio May with DSD is sufficient as it is less voltage than my present DAC. I guess I will just have to try it.

Has anyone tried a transformer volume control with the Holo Audio KTE ? I was hoping to use my Music First Audio TVC with silver wire in lieu of an active preamp.

The drive is just USB and I used the native player built in Chrome. No idea about a NAS.

I tried the new Samsung Chromebook using a 2 TB drive and a USB DAC. It worked remarkably well.
