  1. I use an 80 GB Ipod Classic with a Monster "Iclarity HD" for the speaker. The speaker is small (4"x2"x3") and really puts out the sound. It is bluetooth capable or 3.5mm audio in and is charged by your USB connection. I was originally using my laptop and the bluetooth option but did not want to carry a second laptop for my lossless music (the CAD software I use requires too much processor to play music and not slow down the business function) Another note...this is a great outdoors combination as its small, rechargable, sounds nice and really puts out the sound. P.S. don't buy it on a whim while in the airport...I overpaid. Shop around
  2. I have what I consider a "simple system" and I am currently very satisfied for a minimal investment. Bryston 4BST (250 watts @8 ohms / 400@ 4 ohms) Hagerman Chime Tubed DAC (dated but very quiet and clean IMO with a volume control) Magnepan MG 2.5R speakers and a Miller Kreisel MX100 sub running off I-tunes thru a Dell D830 (2.6 dual processor laptop) Clean sound, no noise between songs and the ease of I tunes. I converted all my CD into lossless files and am very happy. I do have to comment on one thing....IMO the enjoyment in the music journey is in listening to the music and not chasing the next equipment purchase (unless that turns you on, than more power to you) Cheers ! One other thing...I'm not immune to the tweaking bug. Tube rolling has got ahold of me currently. Just started and will have to keep you posted on the results.
  3. I have owned a factory built Chime for 8 months now and am very pleased with the unit. I realize it may not the be latest technology out currently, but for the money it sounds very nice. Yes, you can change the output with the different tubes you use. I am just experimenting with this option now and can not provide any insight currently. It does provide a very silent platform and a musicaly warm quality. I would recommend you give it a try if you can locate a used unit. I beleive the units are not being produced any longer. It is kinda cool to be able to call and speak with the developer (Jim Hagerman) to answer any questions you may have.
