Ripping cd's with ide/firewire or usb, please help!
Bernard replied to Bernard's topic in General Forum
So the last answer i need to know is, did someone make a comparison between IDE/ SATA/USB for use with optical drive? I live in the Netherlands, i know some reviewers but if they are well know..... -
I own several Plextor Premium 2. I want to use these drives for ripping my collection. But i hear so much different opnions about this subject. I have a few questions and maybe one of you can help. 1. Cd/dvd drive with Ide would be the best for ripping cd's because of their protocol. 2. A cd/dvd drive external with usb would be bad to use because of more jitter and other problems. Would firewire be better? 3. Only rip at 1x speed. 4. Firewire external hard disk seems to be better for archive then the usb protocol. Did some one did some testing?

I alsoo tried it with my DVD Plextor and the Plextools software, just for fun. But Plextools will make a ISO of the DVD, which ofcourse i can unzip with 7zip (free program). So right click and save as is a faster method. I don't know if i should get sound quality differences between the two.

External hd with USB or Firewire, quality rip?
Bernard replied to Bernard's topic in Disk Storage / Music Library Storage
I asked this question because i saw some topics and articles about the fact that when ripping music to a hard disk and to a other hard disk (different brand), that they got differences in sound quality. So i thought it could be the firewire or usb connection. But it can alsoo be the powersupply of a hard disk unit. -
If we rip cd's to our NAS or external hd we need ripping software. But how is that with HRX cd's from Reference Recordings and some hi-res dvd's with 24/192 masters from Chesky? Is it just right click and copy to my music folder?
