  1. Ok - a few scenarios: When I hook the qutest dac with a REGA IO, no problem. I want to use the chord qutest dac with a Naim amplifier. When I hook them up, there's a nasty buzz. When I ALSO attach a naim source (in addition to the chord qutest dac) to the amplification, the problem doesn't happen. When I only have a schiit dac + Naim amp, no problems. (Schiit dacs are properly grounded). Question - if I were to use a linear PSU (the LPS-2 or the JS-2 linear PSU) with the Chord Dac, would the grounding on the linear PSU help a make the buzz go away?
  2. Now I'm thinking of doing the Harbeth P3ESRs and the Schiit Vidar. My son is using the A2s with the Schiit Magi. I ran the Totem Minis with the NAD3020 but it gets a little fatiguing by EOD. The use case is mostly meetings all day long and the harbeths are supposed to be good for voice... Anyone try the harbeths with Schiit amps?
  3. I've got a Chord Qutest Dac running into a schiit Valhalla. This has been my desktop system for a while. Working from home and on con-calls all day - thinking of hooking the Schiit Valhalla 2 into powered monitors (to reduce cabling). Any suggestions. Looking for small sized ones - AudioEngineA2+ seem decently sized. Another option would be to get the Schiit Vidar (or a Naim Nap100) and run the amp into something like the Totem Kins - but then they are Totem Kin Mini Plays... but really want to use the dac and preamp I already have...
  4. Hi there, In a closed loop ecosystem, with audiophile grade equipment, I'm not super surprised that you couldn't hear much of a difference. I do have an expensive audioquest vodka cable. I am using this in a most unlikely spot - between the comcast cable modem and a wireless router. I can only guess it's rejecting some noise into my LAN that was being pushed into it by the switch. Now - there are two more switches between the wireless router and my streamer....
  5. My PC is in the electrical spur as my Naim amplifier, and when the PC is on, there is a very low level hum in the transformer of the amp. The hum isn't really that loud (it's actually barely audible), but enough to have me believe that the PC is making my mains 'noisy'. Is there a better PC PSU I can invest in that will not inject as much noise in the system? Or some other device that I can plug in between the PC and the wall?
  6. Ive got a sb touch going into a dac currently. Just wondering if it'll be an upgrade if I got a Mac mini instead and did optcal out and did away with streaming. Alternatively, would an airport express be any better.
  7. It is hardwired, and I've applied soundcheck's mods already. HiRes files through a laptop sound just great. There's a lot more bass to them, and quiteness/darkness to them. Same when I brought a high quality cd player and plugged it into the dac.
  8. I've got the following system: SB Touch -> Rega DAC -> Naim Nait XS -> Rega RS5 speakers. I've never entirely been happy with the s/q of my system. Recently, I tried the dac with a laptop, and the system sounded a lot better, like a lot of noise disappeared. The system sounded a lot less shrill and more pleasant to listen to. Enter spotify: When I listen to spotify through the sb touch -> Rega DAC etc, there is again this sense of calm, lowering of noise floor etc. The system sounds really really good. However, when it's playing lossless files, there is a little shrillness to it. Any ideas? I'm thinking of getting a gigabit router. Maybe the system is working hard pumping lots of bits, and less will make it happier?
