  1. Thank you both for your input. I think what I am getting from each of your comments is what I intuitively thought would be correct--get a DAC/headphone amp. My goal is highest possible audio quality on a budget. So, am I on the right track?
  2. I will be moving into a small apartment in Chicago in a few months where I am certain that enjoying my music will be limited to headphones or at moderate volumes in front of my computer. After doing my research I have settled on the Audioengine A2 for speakers, and Sennheiser HD555 for headphones (I will be listening to a lot of classical). I have a budget of about $250 to complete my computer audio upgrade. Am I better off buying a DAC/headphone amp combo (such as a Fubar III) or simply purchasing a sound card that claims a 24-bit/192KHz sample rate? Additional info: * The computer is windows-based * The computer will also be used for graphic design, gaming, and the occasional DVD movie. * I haven't purchased the Sennheiser HD555 yet, so if you can suggest a good headphone for classical music in the $100 range, I welcome your input. All advice and product suggestions greatly welcomed! Cheers, Patrick
  3. I am a lifetime music lover, hobbyist musician, and working man's audiophile. That being said, I get a lot of great information off of this site, but am admittedly illiterate to most of the technical terms and technical considerations I need to know before investing in a quality audio system to integrate into my home office. What resources can you recommend to learn about audio in general? What considerations do I need to account for when attempting to make my home office my "listening room" via my computer?
  4. Great forum & website! I've spent hours hear reading all the comments and articles. I must say that I am intimidated with everyone's wealth of computer knowledge on this site!!! With that being said, let me ask an obvious question... In order to realize excellent sound quality in my home office, wouldn't I be better off just buying reasonably good audio components rather than spending loads of money on the computer for a soundcard, DAC, high-end computer speakers, etc., etc.? Again, and correct my neophyte questions here, if my sole pursuit is to have optimum sound quality, it just seems logical to pursue to audio components separately from computer components. Okay, beat me up! I want the education.
