  1. Research this amp: http://sanderssoundsystems.com/products/amplifiers/magtech-amp Really makes Maggies shine.
  2. Now you have my attention! Please elaborate.
  3. I run rca from dac into xlr at amp and it works.
  4. Anyone got any more news re this product?
  5. Let's make it simple: he was trying to see if people can reliably hear differences between 2 sets of interconnects. His paper say they can. The only other possible variable in the system is/was what the dac does with outputs via balanced and single ended. The author assumed / measured certain things: "This DAC’s total distortion (all products) at the present output level is specified at -120 dB of full scale. 10 This DAC’s absolute voltages at the left and right RCA outputs and the XLR inverted and non-inverted outputs (pins 3 and 2 relative to pin 1) are equal within a standard deviation of 0.13% (i.e., 0.011 dB). The six voltages were measured at the pins while playing a -12 dB (25.12% of full scale) 1 kHz sinusoidal tone from a 16 bit, 44.1 kHz wave file. I am not experienced with this dac or qualified enough to know what other measurements should /could have been done to measure that the outputs were the same? Assuming the outputs were the same, the author proved that people can hear differences in interconnects. If we go off on tangents about the quaility of the interconnects, their cost, their lengths etc., which may all influence the why people heard a difference, it still does not refute the fact that the majority of the people in this experience reliably heard a difference. (The paper do raise many further questions re larger sample size, measuring of noise etc., but it does point in the direction that further tests are necessary to fully understand how our ears and brains work.)
  6. Hi everyone - what are we discussing here? IMO lots of posts way over my head about many things, none of which has provided any more light on the topic. Any progress on whether Denafrips DAC's are NOS or not?
  7. Great article, thanks @Dan Gravell I learned a few things re acronyms too 😁! e.g.: PEBKAC ("problem exists between keyboard and chair") identity error or ID-10T/1D-10T error ("idiot error"), PICNIC ("problem in chair, not in computer"), IBM error ("idiot behind machine error") and other similar phrases are also used as slang in technical circles with derogatory meaning I am currently rebuilding a 1TB drive at a significant $ and time cost, that was subject to my IBM error, so very timely article.
  8. I followed very much the same road as @davide256: Allo then microRendu, but then I moved to an Auralic Femto streamer. Allo products may look a bit "rough", as in looks cheaply made, but they remain really good value for money.
  9. Looks good. Will it matter what one use to "generate/inject" power into the cable?
  10. The term "Fake News" comes to mind, or shall I say "misinformation". I attended a speech by a budding young science student in which she commented about the problem encountered by students at the moment. According to her students have been warned about this and have been referred to certain sites where reputable, properly substantiated and verified information is available. Unfortunately in our industry we have everything, as in research papers, opinions etc etc., but unfortunately a lot of unsubstantiated opinions as well AS WELL AS rapid progression re technology and computer based audio. I do not have the technical knowledge to confirm/dispute Amir's findings etc. I note that AFAIU his techniques and opinions are debated in forums and he has his followers and opponents. For me it comes down to 3 groups of people: those that only believes in measurement those that only believe their ears and those that believe in both I believe I have heard @acg 's dac/server/computer/naa a few years ago at a get together. IMO it is excellent. So I would say that @PeterSt 's product is very good. Whilst I understand the one PC/server/computer approach I am hesitant to follow it. Technology moves at a really fast pace and to put all your eggs in one basket, to me is too an expensive option. I personally like the approach proposed by @plissken and HQPlayer where the server and NAA are separate.
  11. Thanks I will go and see what I can find.
  12. And here is a less critical review (not a giant killer yet?) https://cheaptubeaudio.blogspot.com/2021/02/wattson-audio-emerson-analog-streamer.html
  13. The Wattson is still very new on the market and there are many streamers and dacs available. I would suggest that you go back to the shop and listen for yourself. (May I add that whilst there are sometimes "giant killers" out there as well as products that are just too expensive IMO you have to listen to the various products and how they work together and then make a decision based on your budget.)
  14. I found a review which is not complimentary of the Emerson: https://www.alpha-audio.nl/review/review-wattson-audio-emerson-digital-en-analog-met-samples/ In this case I am quite surprised: the Analog not much better than a Bluesound Node? and in this case the Digital comparable to the Metrum Ambre (but then the latter has more outputs) I do not understand Chinese, so cannot comment on that. It would be good to get more reviews out there.
