  1. Hello everyone. I'm in the middle of getting a new mac mini for an audio setup and at first I was thinking of just buying the least expensive one and then add more RAM and an SSD for storing my music. But after I read the setup guide of CHANNELD (http://www.channld.com/computeraudio.html) where it says that one should buy the 2.5Ghz mac mini and also not use an SSD from music playback but only for the OS software, I'm a bit confused. It also says there that one should use HDD for playing music. I was thinking of getting a small (90-120 GB) SSD for the OSX and a bigger (240-480GB) SSD (both internal) for storing my music. I was thinking also of using the HDD that comes with the mac mini as a backup of the music files by putting it in an external enclosure and keep it somewhere safe and not connected to the mac mini. What is your opinion about all these? Should I go for the better mac mini? Should I use SSD for playing my music? Thank you very much for your comments. Michael
  2. Hello guys, Reading through several topic in this forum I've decided to make the step towards computer audio. I was thinking of buying a mac mini just for this but I will obviously need an external optical drive. Firstly I thought of Apple's Superdrive, considering the design, but I've read somewhere that it reads at low speeds. Any suggestions? Thank you all, Michalis
  3. My audio dealer just dropped me the AR CD5... WOW!!!! Where was all these instruments and voices hidden all this time????? I haven't heard the DAC8 yet but this cd player is amazing. And it's only been playing for half an hour!!!
  4. Thanks Russ. My vaio has a Pentium M 1.73 processor, 2GB RAM on Windows 7. I use a Western Digital MyBook Essential 1TB as an external drive. Any ideas guys?
  5. Thank you all for your reply. My pc is an old sony vaio bought new back in 2006. I may have to get a netbook just for my stereo system. What do you think?
  6. Hello, My name is Michalis, I am new to this site and i would like your opinions on something. I am thinking of upgrading my source. Currently I use an Audio Research VSi60 as my amplifier with a pair of Vandersteens 2CE Signatures and a Musical Fidelity M1 DAC with a Playstation 3 as a transport and my pc of course via usb(limited to 48khz). I have only a few hi-res downloads. Most of my computer audio are mp3s. So I was thinking, should I go for the Audio Research DAC8 or the cd player from the same company the CD5? I can always rip my cds to my pc, I suppose... Anyone has any experience testing between the two? Thank you for your time guys!
