  1. Do either of the power plugs push down the FireWire?
  2. @mwheeerk I will look into the Cardas design. Will see if the rectangle mold will be a good fit. @all Any of the Weiss DAC202 users out there who is using an aftermarket power cable?
  3. I changed out the factory power cable for a shunyata python helix vx. The male plug of the python is large and the FireWire input immediately below the power cable input on the Weiss gets squeezed the the python. It is a very snug fit and the FireWire is pushed down by the power cable a bit. For the Weiss dac202 owners out there, what power able are you using?
  4. I have downloaded the entire album from Linn records. I have noticed a harsh (distorted) bass note around 1:10, 2:13, 2:25 and 2:40. Too me, it sounds too harsh and distorted to be intentional. I have listen to this track through my 2 channel system as well as in AIFF through my headphones with similar distortion. I have spoken to Linn records and i have downloaded the album at two separate occasions with same result Perhaps it is intentional bass expression from Frode Berg?? I am curious to know if anyone had an opportunity to hear the vinyl and how it compares? Any thoughts on your impression of this track?
  5. @upthekhyber76 I have asked a local Apple store about this. I can't extend my verizon 4G hotspot range with the AE. If I had a AE base station, AE can work seemlessly to extend the wifi but my base is the verizon 4G mobile hotspot. I hope the Apple store agent is wrong about the incompatibility as extending the 4G mobile hotspot wifi range with the AE would be great. I can use the AE to create a non-internet connected wifi network in the basement but can't I achieve similar result by creating a wifi network from the mac mini? thanks
  6. @akapod I will speak to our local audio vendor about this option. hopefully it is a viable option for me.
  7. @upthekybher76 I am looking into the remote option with a local vendor. If they don't come through with a solution, I will look into the Harmony option. thanks!
  8. @Rascal I don't think i can use the airport express. We wanted a place with privacy and the house is built far away from the main road. We have spoken to ATT, verizon, cable company, etc and they have been reluctant to bring in the hard line (significant distance) just to supply our small subdivision (6 homes spread over a wide area). I am using a 4G mobile hot spot as a source of internet. I tried cradlepoint to extend the coverage but without success (another topic of problem). I can always purchase a second 4G hotspot just to supply the basement but its an overkill and I prefer not to do that. using the laptop is an option and I may resort to doing that.
  9. Thanks for the reply @upthe kybher76 I am not sure if I can use the logitech to control Itunes or Amarra. My goal is to control my 2 channel (with mini mac) without having to turn on the (monitor or the TV) I have a local vendor for Crestron trying to configure a remote for my 2 channel audio and will know soon whether it is possible with the Crestron.
  10. thanks for the reply @Rascal My digital audio room is in the basement. My house is insulated throughout with ISOFOAM (virtually every wall, ceiling and floor) and lots of brick/steel framing. The wifi access to the basement is hit or miss (another problem in it self). I have set up a new network though my MAC (mac Mini being the source of the wifi hotspot) and controlled the mini with my ipad. the result was subpar for me. As soon as the ipad "remote" application is closed or ipad goes to sleep or I access the ipad to surf the web, the connection between the mac and the ipad has to be reestablished. this take several seconds. Call me impatient but it didn't work for me. If I use my iphone to connect to the mac, I get an error message "radio station cannot be accessed.. etc" even though I have the radio, etc functions turned off in the itunes (this is being addressed by itunes and already a recognized problem with Lion). Music sounds great and I am very happy with the sound quality overall with exception to one album that is sampled at 192 khz, 24 bit. Helg Trio "natsukashi" was downloaded from Linn audio. there are scattered random static throughout the album. it occurs maybe once in every track. i have discussed this with Linn and I have downloaded different versions with similar issues. That is when I decided to turn the wifi off. The static is stil heard... i am thinking it maybe the specific to Helg Trio "Natsukashii" album. It is the only 192 khz music I have and can't confirm that. I am hoping to visit CES in Jan in Vegas and see how Daniel Weiss has set up his system. the rumor is that he has the Weiss DAC202 hooked upto his MAC. Rascal. do you have to turn the TV or the monitor on to control your Mini? I am looking into an option to operate without having to resort to the monitor. I have used VPN programs with ipad to operate the MINI without turning on the monitor but it has its own problems. I have also tried "Rowmote" but it doesn't solve the problem either....
  11. I have recently made a leap into digital system. I have a Mac Mini (8gb ram, ss, lion) feeding into Weiss DAC202 and then directly into Esoteric A100 Pushpull Tube Amp. So far, I am enjoying the system immensely. However, I have two remotes and a trackpad to control the system. I have decided to not use the IPAD, iphone for control in an effort to shut off all the potential WIFI, noise, etc. I may have to resort back to the ipad control as i am running out of options. I am now using the apple remote alone. But every time I listen to the stereo, there is a ritual of turning on the TV, finding the remotes, track pad and then turning off the TV, etc. Can you share your Mac Mini set up for us digital newbies?
