  1. Ane Brun: It All Starts With One (Special Edition). Highly recommended!
  2. Thanks for trying. I wish I could do something. Chris, do you have any information about Colorfly. Link: http://www.colorfly.eu/index_en.html Looks like a wooden 192kHz-24bit hi-res-pod. I guess it's not sexy enough for the kids Couldn't this be a good start? Is Neil aware of this player. I doubt it will ever be successful with the masses, but if they could join forces with e.g. Apple and make some "hipper design", than the hi-res pod is not far away in my opinion.
  3. Fleet Foxes: Helplessness Blues (HDtracks Download). First I was disappointed, same mastering as cd. But it definately sounds better in high-resolution. There's also a HDtracks-poll at Steve Hoffman forum: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=276659 Only 1 vote for Rumer, Florence + the Machine, First Aid Kit, Pistol Annies, Adele and The Black Keys??? Damn, I really would like to see some more modern music at HDtracks.
  4. There should have been a huge announcement at CES. But nothing happened. At least I haven't heard or read anything. This was announced in 2011 (CNET): This past Thursday I attended an informal "summit" hosted by Craig Kallman, Atlantic Records' CEO and Chairman, to learn more about the label's plans to start releasing high-resolution music. Kallman is passionate about improving the sound of music, and I was impressed by his candor about the industry's appalling track record and declining sound quality standards. ...I was impressed by Kallman's determination not to repeat the mistakes of the DVD-A and SACD campaigns of a decade ago. A lot of the business details are still being worked out, so specifics about the new high-resolution releases were in short supply. Kallman did promise that Warner's commitment to high-resolution will be "active and aggressive," and the formal announcement will take place at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2012. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that all of the major and indie record labels get serious about releasing better-sounding music next year. We'll see. Neil Young (who is on WB) also posted this on his site: 2012 will be the year that record companies release High Resolution Audio...The spirituality and the soul of music is truly found when the sound engulfs you and that is just what 2012 will bring...This is what recording companies were born to give you and in 2012 they will deliver. I sincerely hope that Neil is right. Maybe a high profile push for quality audio will actually succeed this time? Nothing happened at CES ... Anybody has more info what went exactly wrong? Lack of interest by the public? I'm disappointed.
  5. Are the rumors that Warner/Atlantic and Universal gave up their high res. plans true? <br /> <br /> Was really looking forward to the CES announcement but read on another board that Warner gave up their fight
  6. Where is Warner Music / Atlantic?<br /> <br /> They would make a "huge announcement" at CES 2012 about high resolution audio. Physical media and downloads. Is this their active-agressive promotion approach they were talking about last summer in the press?<br /> <br /> I haven't heard anything yet? What's wrong? Did they already gave up their plans, because there's only interest in cheap docks and streaming from the cloud?<br /> <br /> I'm really confused right now.

  10. Because I can't link the videos at this forum, the charts including youtube videos will be posted at this address (many CA-members are familiar with this forum): http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=269396 Chart "Week 48" is now online. Hope you'll find some inspiration for your next shopping list.
  11. Concerning the shm-sacd's. There was massive demand for that kind of tape to dsd-transfer without additional mastering, noise reduction,... They gave the people what they were asking for in the polls (included in the second batch of shm-sacd's). They got what they asked for, and now they complain about disappointing quality of some tapes, hiss, tonality,... Audiophiles will always complain. That's why record companies ignore us I'm afraid.
  12. It's hard to compare computer playback with (sa)cd or dvd-a playback. "Computer Audio" is in an experimental beginners stage at the moment. One day it will beat physical carriers. But at the moment physical carriers still sound better to me ... Compared "Tusk": notebook Marantz UD5005 self burned dvd-a The dvd-a has more punch, sounds more upfront, crisp,... It's not a huge difference, but it is audible. Used the dac from my Marantz KI Pearl Lite for both dvd-a and computer (using J River Media Center). Most of the hi-res downloads are disappointing so far ... Record companies still don't get it. Will they ever?
