  1. I recently just put together a system in my office that turned out to be much better than I thought it would. With the DAC you have you could just add the powered monitors I bought from Emotiva. I purchased the Stealth 8's and the bass is pretty impressive and the power is overwhelming. I have put a sub in the system but it is not a necessity. I would hook the Stealth's up to your DAC with balanced cables and use it's attenuator for volume. My office system has inadvertently turned out to be a marketing ad for the equipment I bought. Many people have duplicated it after listening to it. Good luck with you endeavors, I hope you enjoy your new system as much as I did!! https://emotiva.com/products/powered-monitors/stealth-8
  2. I own two different sets of good active speakers from Emotiva. I would recommend you take a look at the Airmotiv 5s at your price range. They have a new design and I find them very accurate and tough to beat for the price. Good luck!! Airmotiv 5s (Pair) | Emotiva Audio | High-end audio components for audiophiles and videophiles, spanning 2-channel music systems, as well as 5.1 and 7.1 home theaters. Products include multichannel amplifiers, stereo amplifiers, and monoblock amplifi
  3. I forgot to mention that the Level Pilot operates with Balanced in & outputs only. Not familiar with the Schiit Modi or Adam Audio F5's.
  4. Good morning, I have had great luck with the TC Level Pilot. Check out the link below: Level Pilot - Monitor Level at Your Fingertips | TC Electronic
  5. I just read this entire thread and had to respond: I really do not care about Sony’s motives for bringing these products to market; I believe that as someone who enjoys great sounding music, I can see some opportunity for expansion of our hobby. What I read from Sony is that they have manufactured some Hi Rez music components as well as contacted some Hi Rez music web-site distributors that when given access to the original master recordings can produce and distribute this music in download formats i.e. DSD, PCM etc. This is a big commitment from Sony regardless of your opinion of them; they came to us with an expensive marketing campaign and products they can deliver. This includes a full line of products and access to precious music vaults for people like us. The average consumer will not spend this kind of money on music yet. We (us), as audiophiles, are driving this truck and Sony knows it. If it only lasts a short period of time, maybe we gain ownership of some decent new music files. Who knows, Sony has also shown us some great ES products in the last 30 years that they abandoned and I own and use some of them every day!! As a group we represent the community that embraces great music reproduction. Let’s enjoy this and support it with excitement!! As a side note, I started reading and further educating myself with all your input from this forum. You all brought up very important issues in this thread that we are all very passionate about. I cannot believe how big this Forum has become in a few short years. I see this forum quoted, referred to and revered by many. This forum has shown me the power of a few passionate people. This community is growing, just look all of the DAC’s manufactured for sale today. Somebody besides us is listening and responding!!! Cheers
  6. Ben, I have used this solution before and it works great. See link below. Connect this between your Teac UD-501 and your monitors. Make sure you turn your monitors sensitivity or volume al the way up and you will be very happy for less than $100 dollars!!! Level Pilot - Monitor Level at Your Fingertips | TC Electronic
  7. I can only get JR19 to work the Teac 501 DSD using USB in windows 7 with the ASIO driver in the DoP setting. How can I set it to work with the DSD setting?
  8. Thank you Eloise, I was suspect about that. I will give it a try.
  9. I am currently operating with a CAPS 2.0 server I bought form Small Green Computer. It is connected via cat 5 cable to a Apple 2TB Time Cap where I store my music files. The CAPS 2.0 is connected via USB cable (Nordist Blue Heaven 2.0) to a Eastern Electric MiniMax DAC Plus (USB input is Italian M2Tech OEM Asyncronization 24bit 192KHz). I am using my iPad with SlashtopHD application to control the server running J. River 17. I am not able to keep the music from skipping, stopping or buffering after 30 seconds of play. I have tried many changes to the settings in the J. River set-up to eliminate this to no good end. It is not consistent, runs better some days than others. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate the response. I have had a lot of generous help on this forum. Thank you Curtis
  10. For those of you with music servers, what do you find the best way to control them I.E. mouse and keyboard with computer screen, iPad, Etc. I run JRiver on mine and I end up hooking up the screen and keyboard.
  11. I purchased a new C.A.P.S v2.0 from Small Green Computer and I am having a couple of issues getting it all hooked up. I know just enough to make me dangerous. I have a network at home with an Apple Time Capsule with 2tb's of hard dive. I store all of my music on this device. My network has PC and Mac computers on it with no problems seeing the Time Capsule and playing the music with J River MC, SongBird & iTunes. The new server cannot see the Time capsule, with Windows 7 installed. I was able to download J River MC off the internet, but no go finding the network storage. Also, I was wondering if I need to change any of the standard settings on J River for better sound once I get this working. Thank you in advance for any help!!
  12. cpuma, I am looking at that option very seriously. I also listened to the new Schiit Audio Dac(BiFrost) and it was very accurate but not as warm sounding.
  13. I will receive my new CAPS 2.0 server any day that I ordered from Small Green Computer. I have been contemplating getting a new DAC that is capable of a USB at 24/192. I currently have a PS Audio Digital Link iii DAC which I believe limits the USB input to 16/48. I could use the SoTM Digital Interface to convert to a SPDIF connection and go as high 24/96(limited by my current DAC) or buy a new DAC. I will say that I do like the sound of my PS Audio DAC but feel that the high resolution recordings I have would better served with no limitations. I only have a budget of $1500 to $2000 for a new DAC and am have a hard time coming to a conclusion. Seems like there is a new DAC released every day. I would appreciate any feedback or personal experience someone has. Thank you in advance for your time!! PS. Chris, if you have a chance, I am very interested in your opinion.
  14. Thank you for the feedback. If I use an Asynchronous USB DAC will that pull the music out of the iMac with the original resolution from the hard drive?
