  1. Thanks everyone for your replies. To answer some questions. - my total budget is around 1300-1400 dollars, but I am going to spend like 800 dollars for TV only. - there are none specific environmental concers, I can handle all types of speakers It's quite important for me to have some equipment which can handle DTS and other dolby formats. My friend has got the 5.1 Logitech Z-5500 which perform really good. What's strange is that music from movies, for example from final credits, sounded really great, but when we played some flac in winamp it was mediocre. I was wondering if there's anyway to enhance somehow music quality on those speakers. He's got some poor sound card, but on the other hand those speakers have all the decoders in it included. I just don't have any idea how it all works together? Would for example buying Asus Xonar Essence STX do the job? Could you explain me in short what AVR stands for? ( I am sorry in advance if it's some obvious thing, but since english is my second language I am not familiar with all the technical names ). 5.1 and DTS are quite important for me, so if there's not much I can do with this budget to get both music and dolby in decent quality, then I would prefer to focus on 5.1 and additionally buy some good headphones ( but then again, would I need any additional equipment except for decent sound card? . Oh and yeah, of course I meant 20 meter square .
  2. Hello, this is my first post here. First I'll say that I am a newbie if it comes to technical stuff about finding decent equipment and properly configuring it. But definitely I love music and I am sensitive to sounds. So finally, I managed to organize some money with the purpose of spending it on good speakers and TV ( cause I am also a movie enthusiast ). Half of the time I will be spending on listening to music and half of the time I will be watching some movies. Now I know that it's impossible to get the best performance in those both fields at the same time, but the idea is to get the best possible compromise. Also, because all of my music and movies I have stored on my computer, everything will be connected to it then. I heard that good quality is easly lost without proper configuration and equipment due to the digital to analog poor conversion. I have already searched the topic a bit, but I am still confused. So far I was thinking either about buying logitech Z-5500 and connecting it via spdif or buying some good lg home theater like LG HT-762Tz together with new sound card which would have hdmi output ( although I don't know if there's any merit in this ). Some info: the room is around 20m I can spend around 400 - 450 dollars on the speakers most of my music is in flac format Oh and how important is my sound card? Is it all about the output or will investing some money here too will help? I will be really thankful for any help.
