1. This is my first post. The issue of the mastering of I'm With You happens to be something I've been quite concerned about since the release of the cd. Sure enough both the cd and the itunes version sound awful. But what I've found so far is that there are three specific masterings, cd, itunes, and vinyl. I guess the new thing is high res masters for itunes. The claim being made so far is that it was done only to help the itunes release with its lossy compression sound as close to the cd as possible rather than being a further degraded version of it. You know, for mastering in this loudness war way, they sure find a funny way to credit the listeners with the ability to hear the details... I don't get it. I imagine nobody here would either, but they put that effort in. To make it sound exactly the way the cd sounds. The funny thing is the itunes is slightly more dynamic, but not enough to matter. Both versions are repulsive to me.

To top that off, the vinyl probably isn't going to be any better. It appears Vlado Mellar's team got to do the vinyl version this time around, which is a shame since people really got a treat getting to hear the Chili's last album as mastered by Steve Hoffman on the vinyl version. I found a very brief interview with Vlado Mellar at http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/stories/090211mastering . He talks about all three. Reading this ruined my morning. I didn't even bother eating breakfast.
