  1. Not sure if anyone's seen this, but this is the other side of computer audiophile coin. how more and more music is being mastered for itunes and compressed audio formats. http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2012/02/mastered-for-itunes-how-audio-engineers-tweak-tunes-for-the-ipod-age.ars
  2. Thanks for this, although you might be taking all the fun out of arguing on message boards this was a valid methodology and you explained strengths and weaknesses in your chain all through the process. if any one asks about wav vs. FLAC, I'll now point them to your thread. well done and thanks for doing what loads of us have wanted to do but never been able to.
  3. Ask and you shall receive.... I'd like to think Island records read this forum and quickly actioned this.... I might make a list of other records I'd like in HD and see if my luck holds out
  4. Does anyone have any info on this? Junodownload have it as a .wav but I'd love a HD version, and it's an album that would really shine on 24bit.
  5. most places I shop from offer .mp3 .Wav & .FLAC, mp3 is for people who want the convenience of a smaller file format and a cheaper price. FLAC is for people who want lossless with a smaller price size and WAV is for people who dont want FLAC and my guess is that if you are only willing to buy WAV then you are the type of person to pay extra for that privilege. as for the higher price for lossless, there are two reasons for this: 1) is the server storage and bandwidth needed to house and distribute larger file sizes. 2) is the fact that many people mix up value and price and if something doesn't have a higher price, some are unwilling to ascribe a higher value to it. what really angers me is when Radiohead, offered their album as wav then a couple of week later, offered it at 24bit FLAC, with no option of wav buyers to upgrade...
  6. This was one of the few upcoming HD tracks releases I was really looking forward to. a shame that we are getting this bounced down 5.1 version, especially masters for the DVD-A are in the Warner vaults. Thanks for the warning
  7. I am a first time poster looking for some advice/help My current project is to organise and use the 1TB of music I have ripped or downloaded & make it easy to search and play any of the files via headphones. I have all my music stored on a NAS and am about to take ownership of a MacBook Air. I want to stream audio files (mix of .mp3 & .flac - up to 24bit) over the network to a PC, and play out via my Focusright saffire6 soundcard through my Grado 225i headphones. (using pre-amp in the soundcard) I need a piece of software that will work independently of itunes, see the NAS as a storage device and hand over DAC work to the saffire. Is this a workable option? would you recommend it as a good interim solution before I invest in a Hi-Fi upgrade? are their any significant flaws in this model? Since January I have moved to all digital distribution for magazines, music, films & books and I wholeheartedly think that this is the future of music reproduction and enjoyment. Thanks for your time in advance.
