  1. Hello members of the CA community, I'm a beginner as regards audiophile music listening and system set-up but, so as not to bore you with my lifestory (as the FAQ says we beginners do, I'll go straight to the point. I may have the chance to build a good music system at some point in the near future, and thus I would like to create a system that will allow me to listen to my FLAC collection. Basically, I want the FLAC files stored in some external drive to go out through a set of two speakers. I have scoured the net trying to find exactly what I need or some kind of DIY newbie's guide with little but no effect, so finally I turned into recommendations. As far as I have been able to glean, to the effects I propose I would need: a) A NAS hard drive or similar to store the FLAC files with their tags and media files (album art) with a 1TB capacity. I am not sure whether or not a simple external hard drive with USB connection would serve to the same effect and would eliminate the hassle of networking everything. Or maybe I can connect the NAS via USB. Manipulation of the files is essential (modify tags, add, remove, etc.). b)A DAC that will allow me to listen to the FLAC files and can be connected either to an external hard drive or NAS drive. It should also have an amplificator integrated. Control of songs and albums as I listen should be easy through the DAC. No need to connect a PC or anything else. Just the DAC able to browse through the NAS. c) A set of two loudspeakers of good quality that can be connected to the DAC as output. I think that is all I need. Should I need anything else to comply with my objective please do tell. As regards budget I'm with a very limited budget (currently unknown, but guess between $1000 and $3000 US dollars), especially considering my country's conversion rates. So, what can you recommend for each step in the process? Thank you very much for your time and I await your answers eagerly!
