  1. Hi Eloise, Thanks for your post. After a few days of exhaustive research, I have settled on a Vantec 7.1 S/PDIF sound card. It was one of the few cards available that outputs 44.1 khz. Many of the cards available will sample/input a 44.1 khz signal on up to 192 khz, but few actually output at 44.1 khz. Since all my music has been uploaded in 44.1 khz word lengths, I did not want to detract from this until the signal reached my DAC. If it weren't for the DAC I already own, I would most certainly have entertained one of the two cards you recommended, as with either of them I feel a separate DAC would be unnecessary. Thanks again. Regards, Willy
  2. Hello to all, I have been an audiophile for decades, but I am relatively new to the PC (and Mac) based music server scene. I am currently using a latest generation Mac Mini as my music server, feeding its optical digital output signal into my DAC and on into my stereo system. The sound is very good. Alternatively, I am putting together a PC based music server, and I need some advice on which PCI sound card to install. Since I already have a DAC, I want to avoid sound cards that upsample the digital signal, as I believe it would be pointless to feed an upsampled signal into yet another DAC. Am I wrong in my thinking? So, I'd like to ask you experts, is there a sound card available (new or old) that merely outputs a digital signal, say, at 44.1 khz, without altering it in any way? For the record, all my music has been uploaded in WAV format. Thank you for any advice/recommendations. I sincerely appreciate your feedback. Kindest regards, Willy
