  1. Good day, all. I've been needing/meaning to sell off my Logitech/ModWright Transporter and move to something that can provide my Berkeley Alpha DAC 2 with a full 176.4 and 192kHz (Transporter is limited to 24/96kHz). The Auralic Aries seems to fit the bill nicely (particularly with its AES/EBU output), but I have to ask, for anyone out there who has made such a move or heard both devices: Will I/should I hear a difference between the two with my 16/44.1 material (which is - at the moment - 99% of my library (vinyl aside))? I mean, just as CD players can have a different sound, should such a thing extend to streamers that are "simply" passing a file from one place to another? Thanks for your time. 2. Well, the one thing I didn't do was actually reset the device to factory settings (press "+" upon power up). After doing so, things seem to have stabilized. The other thing I realized I did - the one thing that I'm really figuring impacted things (though it shouldn't have) was to have audio power down upon power off. I've since set that to "Audio always on" as seen below. So far, so good. Thanks realhifi and Savage for the suggestions and support. Cheers, Mick
  3. I've posted some threads here about the issues I've run into with my Logitech/ModWright Transporter over the past several weeks - I need to put them into a list as they're now occurring on a regular basis. - Randomly restarts itself (no fix found) - Randomly turns itself off (no fix found) - Randomly loses connectivity with the server (no network/server issues to associate with this) - Randomly loses audio output (fix stated in previous thread) - If I go to a local Internet radio station and then switch to the Optical input, the name of the station stays until the server is rebooted (though the Optical input does actuate). I've restored all the default settings on both the server end and Transporter end. The server has been physically rebooted. The wireless router has been rebooted. I'm not sure what the **** is going on with this thing, especially because I used it for months with no issues, but I'm at my wits' end. Any words of wisdom you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks as always, Mark
  4. Eloise and 44, I did both those and found this (before Dan has had a chance to respond): Transporter SE Doing Everything, but Play - Page 3 - Logitech Forums I performed a search prior to posting here, but was obviously not using the right key words. Anyhow, everything is back up and running now. I was particularly down in the dumps, because I received a brand spanking new Emission Labs 5U4G yesterday and it was going to just sit in the box until I figured things out. On that note, the tube is in place now (listening to Gould playing Bach Partitas) and there is really something about this thing. I will use the word "organic" to describe what I feel I hear as compared to now "not-as-organic" sound of the Phillips 5R4GYS. I may just be swayed by it's sheer size, build quality and that hand-made mesh, but I believe there's really something to this piece. Anyhow, enough of that. Have a great morning, 44 - and a great afternoon to you, Eloise. Cheers, folks.
  5. Good day, all. I was listening to some music this morning from the Transporter when it all of a sudden rebooted itself. It came back up, with sound, but then "crashed" again. The next time it came back on it would not play. Attached is a picture I took while on lunch break. You can see that the buffer is full (it's not playing, so of course it is); it clearly sees the server, and I'm able to change tracks with my SqueezeControl on my iPhone. In SC I see the track playing, but the device just stays as you see it - it's as if the device starts playing, but instantaneously pauses. I've tried various tracks as well as Internet radio - I can't get sound from anything. If I turn the device off and back on (where the audio is actually going off and not just going into standby mode) I can hear the thump come across the amp, so I know everything in place is fine... I'm really scratching my head on this one. Any ideas? Thanks for your time, Mick
  6. That's what I figured. In fact, I've been planning to set up a machine dedicated solely to serving up music, so... Here goes. Thanks for the response, Eloise. Cheers, Mick
  7. Good day, all. I've had a MW Transporter for a number of months now, but am just now really trying to get it "just right". One of my beefs with this thing is that if the server (a MBP) goes to sleep, it wants to continuously look for it (I want to it just turn completely off). Even if I turn it off and then put the server to sleep, it still looks for it. Then, once I turn it back on, I have to manually reconnect to our library. Is there a way around this? Thanks for your time, Mick
  8. I figure you guys will get a chuckle out of it: WANTED!! Help!! Kindly, Elderly Shut-in Needs Used OFF-RAMP 5 to Cure Her OLD AGE JITTERS | DA Converters | Sammamish, 98075 | AudiogoN - The High-end Audio Community
  9. We've had some terrible stuff in our collection. If my wife agrees, I toss what I can. Aside from that, it sits on the shelf and in the HDD. Vinyl, on the other hand, I keep. I've made some poor decisions in the past and hastily gotten rid of records at Half Price Books and what-not. No more. And as far as really old material, such as our early oughts recordings, well... Those will stay on the shelf and in our collection for as long as I'm alive.
  10. To be honest, I didn't live with JR long enough to say. Feature-wise, though, if all you're dealing with is the playback of audio files, I don't know of a better piece of software. I don't care too much for the latest version of iTunes, but it doesn't bother me enough to matter (plus, I just rip/import and forget, using Remote as my sole interface); and A+ does everything I would think to be important (Exclusive Access and Direct Modes, the shutting down of unnecessary and potentially taxing services) as well as having the industry-standard iZotope up/oversampling engine. You can demo both, so go for it and compare away for the two weeks each offer. Cheers, Mick
  11. Yes, I'm using iTunes with Audirvana. I've set the resolution to a very low (considering the 17'' native res) 1024x640 so that the Audirvana GUI takes up almost the entire width of the screen, then I minimize iTunes and just use Remote on my iPhone for all music browsing. This way it gives the slight illusion that I have another component sitting with the DAC and amp. As far as JRiver goes, I used it with Windows (installed on my Mac) and it worked great. In the end, however, I ultimately decided to go back to the Mac OS and then settled on Audirvana for it's features and simple interface. Cheers, Mick
  12. Actually, while I have you... Could I swap the Weiss right out with the Mytek, without having to change anything else regarding my computer/software configuration?
  13. I didn't think there was much of a chance that someone had lived with both, and then here you come with exactly the information I needed. Thanks a ton, Ted! Have a great weekend.
  14. This is all extremely intriguing. Not to be so specific, but has anyone compared the Mytek and DSD to a Weiss product (such as mine) and hi-res PCM? If I could just get my hands on a demo unit...
