I just figured this one out and answered my own question. A friend had told me about this awhile ago (I forgot the name of the software)and it (Audacity)worked great. -
swapping one? I have heard that the MAC mini 2011 can accept two 2.5" drives. Thanks for the suggestion, I had never been to ifixit.com before.

I was ready to order a Kingston 256Gig SSD SV100S2/256GZ for $299 from buy dot com just now but I wanted to check compatibility. When I called Kingston, they said that the 2011 Mac Mini 2.3GHz did not have a serial ATA connection so I couldn't install an SSD drive in the mini. Any idea on compatible drives for the 2011 2.3GHz Mac Mini? Thanks!

Ripping SACD to Music Server via PS3 method, legal or not?
Bobbeanbags replied to Bobbeanbags's topic in General Forum
@Larry Re: http://www.stereophile.com/reference/905copy/index.html BTW ... this is assuming that the below actions are for personal use and the copies made are not re-sold. 1. Using a PS3 to transfer an SACD to an unencrypted format and eventually to a Music Server circumvents the encryption and violates DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act). This "may" be considered illegal. 2. Using the analog out of an SACD player to digitize an SACD is analogous to taping a record and is legal per the AHRA (Audio Home Recording Act). This is legal. 3. Using an SACD player and an HDMI de-embedder like the Atlona HD570 (http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-HDMI-1.3-Audio-De-Embedder-with-3D-Support.html) to separate the digital audio and record it to a server is not legal. (I am assuming this since the signal was never converted to analog and so is not covered by AHRA). Great article by the way, very clear and easy to understand for a complex subject like copyright law. Some examples about what is legal and what is not (like above) would be great postscripts to the article, but some of these may still be in a gray zone I suspect. -
HD Tracks 24/192 vs 24/96 for classic rock
Bobbeanbags replied to Bobbeanbags's topic in Music Downloads & Streaming
using S/PDIF. The system I am using accepts a digital COX signal into digital preamp, digital amp etc. It is a system that is still in development and I am trying to understand the source limitations. It can digitize analog also at 24/192 with its A/D converter - but thats going the other way (i.e. digitizing a record). Thanks! -
I didn't know where to post this but I have a question about the legality of ripping SACD's to a music server. Can one legally rip SACD's one owns to a music server? I would think the answer is yes because copyright law allows one to make copies for backup use, etc (fair use act?). I am looking to try this, but I am concerned about the legality of it. If there is an audiophile lawyer familiar with copyright law, could you give some free advice? :-) Thanks!

HD Tracks 24/192 vs 24/96 for classic rock
Bobbeanbags replied to Bobbeanbags's topic in Music Downloads & Streaming
I hear a slight difference in 192 vs. 96. But, being honest, sometimes I don't know if I "want" to hear the difference though. I have heard of A/B/X comparisons ... just wondering if anyone has heard of results of this with multiple resolutions of audio? In particular, classic rock (like Jackson Browne, Elton John, etc) ... @goldsdad ... Thanks for the reply -
HD Tracks 24/192 vs 24/96 for classic rock

I was going to order the hireZ Jackson Browne album running on empty from HDTracks. Here is my question, has anyone ever tested whether you can hear a difference 24/192 @ $25 vs. 24/96 @ $17? These older rock recordings were obviously digitized from analog 2 track tape. Is the 192 bit rate worth the extra $8? (ie can you hear the difference on a great system?) -
And recognition if the individual tracks? When I used a tool from m-audio to rip LP's it auto recognized the tracks and most of the songs by using an Internet based lookup database of some kind. Regarding the PS3 solution. Is there a way to downgrade the firmware? I can't locate an old PS3 ... Thanks.
