  1. "Nobody is getting rich selling high end audio" Thankful this Thanksgiving for very, very sane folk! I know for a fact Berkeley are away until the end of this month. I do not understand how a non functioning remote on the Alpha dac [i know how it works] represents anymore than a minor inconvenience. They are a world class company and will address your problem I assure you.
  2. Now you have peaked my curiosity - I don't have my mono disc here just now...only stereo. As soon as I have a chance I will test it and update here. BTW...if there is a better name for a title...that originally revolved at 33.3rpm [among other obvious meanings] I have not heard about it!
  3. I noticed CD Japan has the Some Girls listed on their site as available in SACD early next year. They state "Uses the 2011 DSD master based on UK original analog tape" So...if there was a high rez new master made it would make sense that is what HDtracks is using converted to PCM....would be interesting for sure.
  4. I strongly urge you to consider the Black Cat Veloce I love it... http://www.blackcatcable.net/veloce.php and....I have no personal interest in the product or in its success.......
  5. Neil Young was an early investor in Pacific Microsonics as he was very impressed with HDCD when he heard it. Neil really cares about sonics in consumer media.
  6. Thanks for the info...I am on it! BTW just did this in an Aesthetix Calypso and it was a HUGE difference. In this crazy hobby everything does matter. Some just more than others at very sane prices too.
  7. Purchased Radiohead King Of Limbs 24 bit from 7 digital. Pleased with the service.
  8. There is absolutely a MK.II version that is shipping as I type. There is an update available.
  9. I tell you what...buy it. I like to get the downloads directly from Paul's site [as opposed to HD Tracks]. Listen to "The Lovely Linda" and "Junk" and tell me they are low-fi. Bear in mind this was a mother*ucking Beatle who had the bucks to buy decent gear and set himself up in his own studio ***and the good sense to not let Phil Spector anywhere near the place***. I feel there is an immediacy lacking in most recordings. I think Paul was very serious about proving himself on this LP [he plays all the instruments himself with Linda and a very small group of others]. Also, Maybe I'm Amazed is such a great song. The McCartney II lp tries to recreate the mood of the first and frankly falls wayyyyyyyyyyyy short.
  10. Hi Steve, This is a mode available in a few OSX players. I see you are using J.River/Windows 7 so it is N/A. I should have noticed your equip. profile and realized this. I use both Mac and Windows computers and still am interested in your Win 7/J.River experience [we have 2 running this setup]. I look forward to any other input you can provide as you seem to be one of the first to receive the new MkII V-DAC as this is a very exciting, low cost new dac.
  11. Yes, that is one cool enclosure...or ext. hard drive. Thing is it is 2.5....are there any 3.5 oxford chip enclosures available anymore? I know...I know, I can google stuff...I just thought someone must be using one they can recommend. Or maybe it does not matter about the chipset as the last few posts joke or seem unconcerned about.
  12. Back to my original idea. I like that WD 3.5 2TB enterprise drive for storage. Is there an external enclosure that uses oxford chipset that is still available? I think the largest enterprise level 2.5" drive is 1TB max size. Maybe I should rethink it.... 3.5 seems a better deal and more robust too. I already have about 10 various external hard drives all bus powered that are full and 1, 2 TB Hitachi that I gathered a bunch of stuff on. I want a really great, single drive that can be connected via firewire so I can move it back and forth between a few set ups I have. BTW I do believe SSD sounds better and plan to send my new mac mini [2010 SL OSX 10.6.8]to OWC to have it installed soon. In simple comparison with a thumb drive 16GB of the same files via external HHD the flash drive source sounded better. I "feel" this is due to lower strain on the bus and faster transfer speed.
  13. Was about to pull the trigger for this drive to use in an external case -- could someone please recommend one? I want to use firewire connection from [macbook pro and mac mini]. I don't know if it matters if it is bus powered or power supply powered....I like bus powered because it is simple... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=731873&Q=&is=REG&A=details Chris recommended oyen cases-- this one seems cool. It uses the JMicron JMB355 chipset it does require power supply [maybe all 3.5" drives do]? http://oyendigital.com/hard-drives/store/TQM12H.html
