  1. Hello, I'm considering two Roon/Tidal setups: 1. C.A.P.S Pipeline, as headless Roon core/output, Ipad controlled. Linux (Roon recommendation) or Win (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) or 2. Small PC as Roon core (e.g. Mac mini, Intel NUC) + Auralic Aries as Roon output, Ipad controlled. As I currently see it: Pro 1. Versatility, easier to repair in case of hardware failure, hardware upgradable, can be reused for other PC duties if replaced, one unit, can use HQPlayer (if I ever find out what to use this for) . 2. Optimized hardware, optimized software (upgradeable firmware), no unnecessary (noisy) hardware, has a remote for basic operations (e.g. skipping songs). Con 1. OS hassle/maintenance, not optimized entirely for hifi. 2. If hardware fails it is probably a complete unit loss, not exactly pretty, two units. If you have any comments/recommendations, I would appreciate them. What would you do? Martin
  2. Thanks ted_B and Synfreak Using C:\rip for both the ISO-file AND the ISO2DSD files did the trick (it failed using the original ISO2DSD folder. I'm not sure if your advice is in the latest ripping guide. If not, it might be a good idea. I know it has been very helpful to me - I would never have guessed. Thanks again (annoying the neighbours streaming Mozart).
  3. Thank you very much, for your swift reply. However, I still cannot get the extraction to work. I renamed the file M C.iso, placed it on the desktop and moved the ISO2DSD folder to the desktop as well. Both dual and multi fail (I'm looking for dual). You mention metadata. When you suggest changing the file name, do you mean editing the metadata? If so, which program are you using?
  4. Hello, I have been ripping several SACDs, using ted_b's guide. However, ISO2DSD (v6 or v7) crashes with the Pentatone album "Mozart Clarinet concert in A, K.622, Clarinet quintet in A, K.581" (PTC 5186 048, DSD). ISO2DSD gets through "Disc information", "Album information", "Area count" and "Exporting CUE sheet" but crashes when it gets to "Processing". The disc plays fine, on my MSB UMT, so it should be ok. I tried ripping again, with no succes. Then I ripped one of my other SACD's. ISO2DSD sailed right through this ISO file without problems. I tried all ISO2DSD options and managed to get a DFF-file which I have tried converting using Jriver and Signalyst DFF to DSF (only Jriver managed the conversion). This results in a multichannel file that I can't use, so I don't know if it is actually working. Has anyone experienced problems with this album or other Pentatone albums? Could it somehow be copy protected or am I doing something wrong? I'm out of ideas but would really like to stream the album like I do with my other SACD's. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Hi I've been considering the PS3 scheme to rip my SACDs, for DSD streaming. However, I own a MSB universal media transport. According to the MSB website (Universal Media Transport <i>PLUS</i>), the UMT is capable of: "When an SACD is played, native DSD will be output on the digital outputs. This DSD stream can be connected to a DSD ready DAC like any MSB DAC or can be saved on your computer to add to your playlist". Do any of you guys know how to save a DSD file? Will the metadata be included? Do you have any recommendations as to software? Other info: My music server has a MSI Juli@ sound card which is normally connected to my platinum dac IV via SPDIF. The break out cable has SPDIF IN and MIDI IN/OUT as well. Media server: JRiver. I would appreciate any input. Best Regards Martin
  6. Thanks hiro100 In fact I think that I'm going to go for a Non Pocket Server. I like the idea of having the option of adding more than one sound card - if the Juli@ doesn't perform. So I'm looking at the Origen S14V equipped with a fanless I3 2100T. This will allow a micro ATX motherboard with more PCI/PCI-E slots while (hopefully) avoiding any moving parts. Other than that, I think that I will stick to the C.A.P.S. formula as much as possible - though I need to figure out if Windows 7 Ultimate is absolutely necessary (support ends 2015). Best Regards Martin
  7. ...but it seems to be a US company only, so I don't see any way of auditioning the Sonore. And after the MSB media transport disaster, I'm not into buying new equipment without auditioning. Thank you for the suggestion anyway. Best Regards Martin
  8. iamimdoc, Thank You for your comments. I appreciate them. I've noted your recommendations and will look into them, in more detail, when I progress further with the project. It's proving more difficult than I anticipated. There seems to be a fantasillion options with associated pitfalls. Some even recommend a USB card with a USB/AES converter before the DAC. Why this should be better than going AES all the way (e.g. Lynx AES16), I have no idea.
  9. Eloise, Thank You for the information. It is very helpful. This is exactly what I was afraid of. So the M10 case is out. I was considering the HFX, but it leaves room for only one card, and I'm not sure the Juli@ will fit: http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=mcubed_music_server.html Instead I'm considering the Origen s14v (with no fans in operation): http://www.origenae.co.kr/en/htpc_s14v.htm It's a micro ATX cabinet which I believe will allow full size PCI cards. Anyway, it opens for more motherboard options. I've been looking for a micro ATX atom D525 motherboard with several PCI slots. Initially, it would be fitted with the Juli@, but it would be nice with extra slots if I should stumble over a used Lynx AES16 or RME card, for comparison. However, the only card I've found is the JW-D525M-GT: http://www.jwele.com/motherboard_detail.php?1061#_spec But this board has a fan....Hrmpfh! Do any of you readers know of a similar board without any fans? Or perhaps the cabinet is large enough to allow a "low" heat I3/I5 motherboard? Any recommendations/comments would be appreciated. By the way: Does anyone know why the C.A.P.S. is equipped with Windows 7 Ultimate? This OS is only supported til 2015, while Window 7 Proffessional is supported till 2020.
  10. Firedog, Thank You for your suggestion. I didn't know that the Auraliti was equipped with the Juli@ card. Unfurtunately the Auraliti will not work with a NAS, so it won't work with my QNAP TS-419P+.
  11. Hi I'm considering building a music server, based on the Computer Audiophile Pocket Server version 2.0. The server will be connected to my MSV DAC IV (the MSB UMT stinks when it comes to streaming - that was a lot of money out the window). I'm considering the ESI Juli@ based on: http://www.avguide.com/review/the-absolute-sound-card-survey-tas-213?page=2 But will this card fit in the C.A.P.S casing, which I like? Has anyone tried controlling the C.A.P.S with an Ipad (through J River Media Center)? If so: Are you happy with the performance? I'm also considering a remote screen application, to avoid a monitor, e.g.: http://antecea.com/ or http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/air-display/id368158927?mt=8 Has anyone had any experience with this? If so: What do you prefer? Any comments/views will be appreciated. Best Regards Martin
