Does anyone have experience using an original Playstation (SCPH-1001) as an audiophile grade CD Player?

I have seen others recommend Squeezebox Touch.

Keep in mind that AIrport Express has a limit of 16/44.1 (CD quality playback) so if you plan to play high resolution music (i.e. 24 bit) then Airport Express will be a limiting factor in your system.

You may benefit from the ability of the V-LINK to remove noise from the computer signal. FYI - MF has a new V-DAC that is asysncronous - the V-DAC MKII.

Have you considered Audioengine A2 or A5 (less expensive but very good reviews). A second choice is NHT M-00 (more expensive with very good reviews).

This may be a stupid question (I am new to all of this) but do you know if I were to use the following setup: iMac/iTunes playing 24/96 converted from FLAC to AIFF --> USB -->HRT Streamer II+-->Audioengine P5's Will the feed into the P5's be the same quality as the DAC fed signal? I guess what I am really asking is this: do the P5's allow a RCA connection from an external DAC? If so I think this is system I will go with. Thank you for the advise.

I am also considering using the Audioengine N22 and P4 configuration. I was originally planning on Airport Express but it looks like a number of people like the Squeezebox. Can you use the Squeezebox with iTunes (transfer music library to Squuezebox)? Does everyone like the Squeezebox due to the 14/44.1 limit on Airport Express?

I am planning a budget computer audiophile system and I have a question regarding the use of Airport Express and a DAC. If I want to play 24 bit/96 kHz files that are streamed to my Airport Express and connect to a DAC will the sound quality be at 24 bit or will the data be downgraded to 16 bit from Airport Express? I am planning iMac-->iTunes (FLAC conversion to AIFF using Max)-->Airport Express via Toslink-->Musical Fidelity V-DAC-->receiver-->speakers. I appreciate any advise you can give. What if I use active speakers? B&W MM1, will the internal DAC in the active speaker change that input from the external DAC? Thank you.
