  1. Then the answer to your question is no. You cannot "undo" clipping. The part of the wave that is clipped/cut off is gone for good and cannot be restored.
  2. " Is it even possible to eliminate the clipping?" I've had great results with iZotope RX. I'm not sure if there is a windows version. If not you could try Adobe Audition.
  3. I use a LaCie USB cable from a Porsche external drive. It's pretty short at about 30 cm. I do not plan on "upgrading".
  4. everything seems fine after a reboot. I'm happy to avoid re-indexing as it's usually long and CPU intensive. Hope it won't happen again.
  5. Spotlight is permanently disabled. Even when Audirvana Plus is not running. The usual terminal commands are not working.
  6. Remastered != better It is way too often a ruse to resell the same album over and over again. "Remastered" means "improved" for most people and the record companies know it... Plus I'm fighting the loudness war ;-)
  7. "renicing" priority of your player of choice can certainly help on older, slower Macs. Here are a couple good apps if you're not comfortable with the Terminal. ProcessRenicer & atMonitor.
  8. From the Decibel website ... "Decibel is compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). Exclusive access (hog mode) works correctly, however audio is not sent in the device's native format due to an architectural change in Apple's USB audio driver."
  9. Soundsource is great and it's free http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/ thanks for the tip Akapod ... NIce!
  10. iTunes ignores errors and doesn't take optical drive read offset into account. It's also a one pass only ripper. How do you know your iTunes rips are error free? XLD is the better ripper. And that's not "spreading disinformation".
  11. ripping CDs with iTunes is akin to dragging and dropping the files from your mounted disc to your system drive via Finder. iTunes is not a good ripping tool! XLD (X Lossless Decoder) is the best ripper for mac. Get it here Great hydrogenaudio wiki on Secure ripping here As far as audiophile players go I strongly (my fav) recommend Audirvana. It's free. And considered to be the best by many. BTW - anyone who has developer tools installed on Mac can use the player included in "HALLab". The SQ of this player is quite good.
  12. I ordered one from custom-cable.co.uk as well on August 26th. I only got the shipping confirmation 2 days ago on the 7th. I can't say I'm satisfied with the processing delay.... anyhow, I should get it some time next week. @goldband, Is yours hooked up via USB and what power adapter are you using?
