  1. I ran into the same issue. Successful upgrade to 1.0.5 but .dsf files would not sync. I'm using PMW instead of drag and drop. Solution that worked for me: Launch PMW and find your Pono device (or memory card) in Pono Player, Drives & Devices. Click Options>Files,Paths, & More>Supported Types. I had to manual type in .dsf to the list of supported file types in this list and click Ok. I did sync the device and ejected. Now .dsf files will sync and play for me. I also tested drag/dropped with Finder and that also worked after making this change.
  2. If you're really only using if for SPDIF, the power rating and XT32 are the main differences. The 5009 supports HDMI 2.0, and also supports more file types natively like AIFF and DSD so its probably more future proof for video and if you wanted to get into streaming these file types from a network. The 7008 has a phono input if you have turntable while the 5009 does not. Sounds like good prices either way.
  3. This sparked my curiosity. I have the circa 2003 DVD-A rip of On The Beach and it says it is 176.4/24. I thought the Pono store only sold the highest quality version available. My next thought was the DVD-A was an upsample OR the current 88.2 Pono version is not the highest resolution available. Here are some pics of the DVD-A rip: FWIW, My Pono Player sounds amazing. And the Beatles remasters in 44.1/24 FLAC from the USB sound great on the player. So does NY Harvest and Time Fades Away.
  4. Have you tried using the iFi as a USB to SPDIF converter and letting the DACs in the receiver decode? Then configure room correction and try DSP. If the DSP doesn't solve your issue then you can likely rule out room correction and look for speakers or amps. At least try this before spending money.
  5. Bowers & Wilkins P7 Mobile Hi-Fi headphones Above your stated price range, but look and sound great.
  6. With jRiver, sure. Subjectively, i like the iDSD better for PCM vs. Dragonfly. With the exception of using Sennheiser HD 650s. The Dragonfly has a nice headphone amp.
  7. Do you want to borrow my Dragonfly 1.0 to try? If not, I would see what the iFi nano iDSD sounds like connected to your amp.

  9. My Mac Mini plays 192 via HDMI to Marantz SR6003 fine. Using iTunes and/or Audirvana. Check your Audio Midi settings (Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup) and see if it is at 96k. I assume JRMC overrides the MIDI settings, but that is one place to look if you're troubleshooting. Change it to 192 in MIDI and see what happens. The Mac will not output DSD to the Marantz although the DSD indicator lights up when I play SACDs with Oppo BDP 95 and output via HDMI.
  10. I have Thriller DSD and love it. It is one of the top 5 favorite downloads I own. I only have the original CD to compare to and it better in every regard. You really hear Quincy Jones production work on the DSD. I use this all the time to impress friends and guests and they are often blown away with how great it sounds compared to what they are used to. Muddy Waters Folk Singer was my first DSD download. It is great too. I think this one benefits most from the Kevin Grey mastering vs. DSD format. I have 2 CCR DSD downloads and they are good too, but not WOW amazing like the 2 above. Not sure the CCRs were recorded that well to begin with, but they are better that the mp3 album and tracks I have on the Greatest Hits CD. I wanted Guacho but I am avoiding it based on feedback on this forum and responses for emails I sent to Acoustic Sounds customer service. The DSD download is from a mastering that doesn't compare favorably to other versions. I heard good things about Kind of Blue in DSD, but i already have it in 192/24 PCM and it is excellent so I'm not rushing to get another version. There's a review on audiostream.com. You could find more opinions on most of these by searching this forum. Tip: look at the mastering info. If it was mastered by Kevin Gray or others with Analogue Productions your chances of getting a good one increase. From my experience, the mastering is usually more important than the resolution or format.
  11. Have you tried a different usb port? What happens when you play 192 with straight iTunes or a different player?
  12. +1. Love this album. One of the best things I've heard in 2014.
  13. There is an User Manual that explains a lot about "how actually Audirvana works." Audirvana>Help> User Manual. Page 16 says this: Sample Rate Conversion Sample Rate Conversion happens when - The audio device does not handle the audio track sample rate - Upsampling is forced.
  14. I liked the Momentums in sound quality and comfort much better than the HD25 II/ Amperiors. Especially in comfort.
  15. I got some B&W P7s last week and I'm very impressed and recommend them. They could pass for portable and the isolation is pretty good. I'm a big fan of the Beyer DT 770 32Ohms and I like these better. The P7s have better sound staging, better treble and defined bass. The P7s sound more refined to me. The 770s have a little stronger bass and greater bass impact but not as defined. I can hear a greater difference between mp3s and CDs/High res with the P7s compared to my other headphones. Possible downside is tape noise on older recordings is more evident on the P7s. The P7s sound great with the nano iDSD (no iCan here). Easy to drive, but respond to better sources and amps. Good fit and comfort (I got medium sized head and small ears). I thought the B&W P3s and P5s are overpriced and there are much better options for less $, but the P7s are top shelf IMHO.
