  1. Heard the KEF blade myself, sounds rubbish considering what it costs, blown away buy equally overpriced but at least decent sounding PMC gear. Bet the wilsons sound nice though. RMAF, wish I was there.
  2. Still wondering why people are talking about WAV / AIFF... It's been converted from the disc and gone through another dozen processes and machines and wires etc.. Always thought FM live concerts sounded good due to the lack of stages in the replay chain. CD has between 10 and 15. Download is much better = especially if care is taken. Playback, supposedly jplay/jriver help. AIFF/WAV can normal people even with expensive but not very good hifis or headphone setups tell? I doubt. They both have their issues, probably swings and roundabouts. Where is the SQ thread someone started?? Saw on tomorrows world in the early 80's or late 70's a demonstration... They had 1 speaker, they could move the sound up, down, left or right (not sure about depth). Someone managed to work out how the ear decodes this info. I think Sony do some high end studio boxes to give hyper real sounds etc. Funny, this thread is Mac vs PC And btw, link for test files doesn't work.
  3. Wish unsubscribe worked, so much mail. It's pretty certain things will sound different. Different systems, different playback software. I can't imagine the sound is hugely different though (bit for sure it will be). More likely to affect is the person. I find if you eat healthy food /water and go to the gym then sit down and listen to music it's going to make a lot more difference, it's a huge upgrade with the increased blood flow, but I guess hard work. Personally I use disc images, takes conversion out of the equation and helps me with my preferred playback medium cdplayer. I just accept portability is always going to compromise sound quality and the need for a server will also compromise SQ. Never heard a single sound server come close to cd - naim, linn, ayre, arcam ... I doubt almost everyone is going to have a 30-100k+ sound system that it makes much odds on anyhow - i rule out all but maybe stax headphones. Probably better spending money and time somewhere else. I mean, the stress in some of these posts is going to affect your mood and chemistry and hence how you hear. If I had to choose then +1 for wav, mostly because it's going to be more compatible.
  4. Yep, copy cd to image format of your choice. Mount image as virtual cd drive and playback. No conversion to wav, but does the iso image ripper use extra safe error correction??? Seems better to me. Just then need custom firmware on your mediastreamer of choice to automatically mount your images. Also, much easier to move around iso images.
  5. Used to use mp3 (many years ago) then the aforementioned amiga/apple and microsoft aiff/wav formats and then decided to use EAC and rip to FLAC / mp3 which was ok for a while, BUT ... Found these somehow never sounded as good as discs on my CDP. So now I extract to an image file. I then mount on a pc or use a dedicated media player. Also, makes burning back to a CD real easy as no conversion needed. Has anyone read about sound quality comparisons with image vs other formats? Seem to have a number of installed programs - MagicIso, Deamon Tools, PowerISO etc..
