  1. About a year ago I installed a Lynx AES16e PCIe card into my Memory Player, and I'm very happy with the results. One of the features that the Lynx card has is that it can accept a word-clock input from an external clock. I know this feature is intended for studio use, to synch all digital devices to the same clock. But could a quality clock like a Grimm (CC2) positively impact the sound in a non-studio setup? Or has the clocking in the card already been optimized? I'm curious if anyone has this card and has tried external clocking.... thank you Dave
  2. I've had my Memory Player for a few months, and I'm now comfortable with the general settings. I play music mostly from the SSD, but I do occasionally listen to Tidal. It seems there are 2 ways to use Tidal on the MP: 1. Download the Tidal desktop and play through Windows to your DAC, or 2. Open JRiver, then open the Tidal desktop and in settings select "JRiver" as the output. Does anyone know if its possible to have a Tidal stream temporarily stored in the MP's memory so that the IDEAS software can work its magic before playing? thank you Dave
  3. ctsooner, Last week I ordered a 16 core MP from Sam. I think it was a trade-in from someone moving up the line. There is no DAC inside. He's updating the software and also the USB output and I expect to have it in early January. Looking forward to comparing it to my Aurender N100h, but it doesn't seem like a fair fight. From what I've read about Mark's ideas, it seems the rest of the industry is looking in the wrong direction. I hope I'm right. Dave
  4. Rod... I don't have a DAC recommendation yet, but do you have your Tidal set to "HiFi" for the highest output quality? This can make a nice difference. Dave
  5. Orangecrush - congrats on the 4.1 kit. I built one several years ago and I think you will enjoy it very much. After all the work I’ve done on it, I can’t imagine parting with it. Dave
  6. I started with 44.1 files and those didn't play. I've tried several sample rates from the files in the Aurender hard drive and none of them will play. But when I stream Tidal, the Eitr will play all sample rates. I did write to Schiit, and they offered to send a replacement, which is already on the way.
  7. I bought an Eitr last week to use with an Aurender N100H. When I stream Tidal it works great, but when I try to play files from the Aurender's hard drive, there is no sound. I have 2 other USB-to-S/PDIF converters (Singxer F-1 and Mutec MC-3+ USB) and neither one has any trouble playing files from the hard drive. Before I contact Schiit or Aurender, I just wanted to know if anyone else is using an Eitr with an N100. thank you Dave
  8. Hi Julian, I'm a Mac user and I was glad to see today's announcement. I did the double update from 1.1 to 1.3, and then to 1.10, and it all worked perfectly. Dave
  9. Hi Cormorant, I've been using a Mutec MC-3+ USB for about 10 months. My setup is different than yours, but I occasionally get "no sound", and here's my solution - I switch to a 24 bit recording that's stored on my Aurender. This causes the Mutec to switch sampling rates, the blue light flashes, then music plays. Now I can switch back to Tidal, which is 16 bit, the blue light flashes again, and it plays. Can you try switching to 24 bit, then back to 16 bit? Dave
  10. jelt2359, Make sure he's got it set to "intern" and "reclock". So on the left, the top and bottom green lights should be lit. I have an N100H and with these settings the Mutec works perfectly. Dave
  11. sigitask, At the time I bought the kit, it came with AN M4 I-E core transformers. I checked this morning and the transformers I upgraded to are the Ultra Hi-B with copper primary and secondary windings, not the Super that I had originally written. So I moved 3 notches up the range. It took a few weeks for them to run in but once they did I noticed a large difference in dynamics, which is what I was expecting. Originally I planned to go with the Ultra HiB that has silver primary and secondary windings, so 2 notches further up the range, but my tech who is very experienced with AN transformers told me that the differences I'd notice would likely be small. So we spent the difference on the TRANS-496 I/V transformers. I am very happy with the transformer upgrades and I definitely consider them to be worthwhile. I hope this helps.
  12. Astrostar59, I started with the same 4.1 LE kit a few years ago. I've done similar mods, including AN 496 IV transformers, 2 watt tants, AN Super HiB output transformers, and Jensen silver foil caps in the paper tube. I also added Black Gate caps where I could. I am extremely pleased with the results. I also have Stax 009s and use them almost daily. I couldn't be happier.
