  1. Hello Audiophile Friends, I upgraded my PC and accordingly I considered to upgrade to Windows 10. Unfortunately, ARC said that my DAC8 is incompatible with W10 and a hardware update is required. The price is 1000$ for the update. Consequently I downgraded to W8.1 Pro which is confirmed by ARC as a compatible Windows version. On their web site there is only one USB Driver which, I assume, is compatible with all current and past ARC USB DACs. Technical support did not clarify this point. However it appears that the driver is not compatible with W8.1 Pro neither. When I connect the DAC via USB 2.0 ports DAC8 can be seen as listed in the devices list of the OS however the driver cannot be updated. Briefly, has someone got an idea about the problem? Is it a driver, OS or port issue? Can somebody provide the old driver that I stupidly did not keep (believe me, I keep and backup everything!). Can Windows 7 fix the issue? Thank you.
  2. Hello All; I have a couple of questions about the last version of the Jriver. Actually I am quite unfamiliar to the software but getting used to it quickly. I am also using Jremote and love them both. My present problems are as follows: 1) Suppose you have 6 tracks in an album with 2 different composers, say Mozart and Chopin. Lets assume that the first three tracks are composed by Mozart and the rest by Chopin. If you make a search for Mozart with "composers" category you get only three tracks. If you want to listen the whole album, you can use "expand to full" feature, which is very useful, creating a new "search list" in the “category view”. Thus far, everything seems ok. Howewer, I could not expand to full album view when using Jremote. I've tried many different configurations in the category view of the media network but I always get the tracks not the albums. Any idea about this problem would be appreciated. 2) “Album artist (auto)” column or “AlbumArtist()” expression automatically calculates the album artist(s) according to the information gathered from “artists” column. However, if there is more than 1 artist for a single track (very common in classical music) separated with semi columns, the expression only takes the first artist in the “artist” column into account. I would prefer that it calculates “multiple artists” for such cases. 3) When making a search through the “genre” category, I’d like to have a logic that performs different search types for “classical” and “non-classical” genres. If it is classical I’d like to directly get the associated albums but if it is not then I would prefer to get first the “album artists (auto)” and then the albums. Thank you very much indeed. Best
  3. Hello all; I have heard and read wonderful things (e.g. Stereophile, Soundstage etc.) about this machine but never had a chance to test it at a dealer or at home. Seems that nobody is talking about any DAC other than Weiss, Playback, Meitner, Berkeley etc.. Any experience or perhaps comparison with this device would be highly appreciated. Best LDA
  4. Hello all; I'm considering buying Cary 306 Pro SACD/CD Player, but I am a bit confused about its specifications. The specs say that the digital input sampling rates are 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 96 kHz or 192 kHz (Accepts 16, 20, or 24 bits). I suppose, this means that 24/176 is not supported by this machine. In this case, wouldn't be possible to stream a 24/176 file (e.g. Reference Recordings tracks) to this unit's DAC? I dont have much knowledge about available streaming softwares e.g Mediamonkey etc. If the unit do not really support this sampling rate (176kHz)is it possible to make reliable downconversion via one of these softwares? Apart from that, the specifications state that digital sample rates for the digital inputs, which I consider "the native frequencies" of the unit for these inputs, are 44.1, 96 or 192 kHz. So does it mean that in order to play a 24/88 file back the unit will select 24/44.1 sampling rate and play it back with a downsampling?. I wrote Cary Audio two times about the above subjects but unfortunately no one replied! Well, this surely made me think about the reliability of the company's custumer support... So If you kindly help me to clarify these subjects I would deeply appreciate. Best regards, LDA
