1. Hi. I saw ur from sg. I am as well. Im planning to build a Zuma. Can i ask your advise on what is the best way to do it? Pls contact me at 90075411

 2. Hi Jesus, Is it possible to use the Sonore Upgrade PS with a picoPSU-160-XT? I'm in Singapore which is 230V and have a CAPS Zuma. Regards Tarik
 3. The biggest congratulations Chris. Lovely news. Now all of us here our keeping our fingers crossed that you're making sure baby Shirley Scarlett's first words are MaMa or DaDa and not your current favorite toy - B.A.D.A We're all here to help Congratulations once again Tarik
 4. This is great news and a most warm welcome to the biggest computer audiophile family on the planet. Classical music is where my heart is, so double fantastic news. Welcome kathy!
 5. Hi Mitch, This is wonderful and i'm really looking forward to reading and learining from your posts. I know that my music can sound so much better than what I'm currently hearing due to the fact that my living room has the acoustic qualities of a subway tunnel!! I know of a few guys here in Singapore that have spent thousands of dollars on room treatment only to find that they've gone from one problem to another due to a lack of understanding and actual measurements/readings of their rooms. I think even the most basic of correct knowledge and treatment will go a long way. Bring it on Mitch...
 6. When I heard the news, I realised how normal it felt to use Steve's creations on a daily basis without ever really thinking about it. That alone is something special. I agree with Bill that I'm sure Apple is in good hands, but the shining light behind it has left us now.

When I get home from work tonight, I think I'll be switching on the Macmini with differnt thoughts to the ususal, but mixed with a sense of pride that his creations are in my home and have given me and will continue to give me many more years of enjoyment.

Condolences to his family and friends

RIP Steve.

7. Hi jdebonth, Well if the Primare's and MC402 are balanced then this boggles the mind a bit. From memory, Chris's review of the Weiss DAC202 was connected power amp direct via XLR to a MC275 which uses a lot of tubes and Chris raved about the sound quality especially the soundstage! What do you think Jdebonth, maybe drop Daniel Weiss an email to see what he thinks about this? Its 2.15am here in Singapore so I'll hit the sack now, but will touch base later. Regards Tarik
 8. Hi jdebonth I've had a similar experience with regards to a difference in sound when comparing unbalanced RCA with balanced XLR. The Weiss should sound pretty similar with both outputs and the fact that you've experienced a difference even with two different amp setups does not necessarily mean that the Weiss is doing something different with its outputs. What I'm saying here is that if the amplifier/s in question do not have a true balanced circuit topology then what you may find is that unbalanced is the way to go as connecting a balanced source to an amplifier that isn't truly balanced may create some form of sound shift/distortion. The other thing to remember with Pre amps / power amplifiers such as your C2300 that has tubes is that getting a truly balanced output stage is very, very difficult as all tubes will have slight differences regardless of the tight manufacturing tolerances. I use Octave Audio amplifiers which are superb, but the chief designer/owner Andreas Hofmann states bluntly that he prefers unbalanced in his designs as balanced is difficult if not impossible when using tubes in the output stage. Your Primare was solid state, but again unless it was truly a balanced design, that could also cause a change of sound. I'm no expert in this, but just some experience i've had Regards Tarik
 9. Hello Everyone, Attached is a link to a company called Auralic who manufacture a 32/192 USB DAC called ARK MX+ using something called Active USB technology. http://www.auralic.com/en/ Regards Tarik PS. If this has been featured on the forums before then my apologies.
 10. Hi dapost,
It's nice to see I'm not alone in my observations and from the sounds of it, you've found a good match you like with the Weiss DAC202, it's outputs and the rest of your system.
I agree, great review from Chris on the Meitner and his reply to my question was more or less right in that how dac's sound and the synergy found is system dependent. My power amps input sensitivity is 0.8v/30db and only requires around 1Vrms from a source to make it come alive. Many power amps have input sensitivities requiring higher voltage than that to make them sing so the standard 2Vrms or more would be a better match.
 11. Hi Chris,

Enjoyed reading your review on the Meitner Audio MA-1. Your style of words always puts a smile on my face. It's 3am on Sunday morning here in Singapore and crept out of my room whilst the other half is thinking I'm just nipping downstairs for a glass of water.....SWITCHED ON THE COMPUTER TO READ YOUR REVIEW OF COURSE!!!

I have the Weiss DAC202 and besides what i felt was superb sound, it was the four selectable coarse analog settings allowing me to perfectly match it to the input sensitivity and gain control of my pre/power amp (set at 1.06Vrms in unbalanced). I found with my system that if I go to 2.12Vrms or higher on the output gain, the sound feels more punchy / dynamic, but also feels less natural.

I noticed the output specs for the Meitner Audio MA-1 are XLR outputs: 4.6Vrms (+15.4dBu) and RCA outputs: 2.3Vrms (+9.4dBu). With the standard for digital players over the years set at 2Vrms in unbalanced/4Vrms in balanced, do you think the slightly higher outputs on the Meitner MA-1 contribute to a more dynamic or vivid sound or is this a negligible reason towards its sound characteristics?

Best regards

Tarik
 12. Hi Alan, I thought i'd just add to this thread some information that came about from a person who modifies power supplies in the mac mini for audio use in Singapore. His experience is mostly with the 2010 mac mini's (and predecessors) and still learning the in's and out's of the new model, but I rasied the question regarding isolating the bluetooth and / or IR from the internal module of the new Macmini and have pasted his comments below: "Hi Tarik, wasn't aware of this detail is possible to remove bluetooth module from the motherboard though. technically possible, but I aint sure will mac osx will let it boot up succesfully. but it seems that the module contains the wifi chip too, hence u will lose wifi, but for audiophile usage.we usually don't use wifi. is too risky to cut out the bus from the wire, I will not venture into this area " " Hi Thanks for the swift reply. Would the case and issues you've mentioned concerning trying to remove the bluetooth module also apply with removing the IR module as well? You've mentioned for audiophiles, wifi really shouldn't be used. Does that mean using the ipad to play music/access music library is not a good thing? Regards Tarik " " I prefer to use Ethernet, so at least there is less interference inside the mac mini I cant see the IR module, probably is embedded, so I will not touch it. but the infrared receiver cable can be dismantled " Alan, I'm not sure if this info is useful, but having just bought a 2011 mac mini with 256 SSD and 8Gb memory, I was interested by the topic you've raised. As I think Lion is a more advanced software over SL, I want to keep this setup and if what the person said above is true that the IR receiver cable can be dismantled, this may releive one of the 2 USB buses of being shared with another device. I guess the other way to go is with a Firewire DAC and leave the USB ports for other purposes. Best regards Tarik (from sunny Singapore)
 13. Great! Thanks for the response Michal, I Live in Singapore (230 Volts AC). Does one place an order direct with Mytek or do you have a distributer in the Far East?
 14. Hi Michal, I'm new to the forums and have just recently sold my disc spinner to move over to computer audio. I like the sound of the specs on the 192-DSD-DAC. Does this dac have variable gain by changing the output voltage in the unbalanced RCA / balanced XLR outputs? For example, 1vrms to 2vrms in unbalanced RCA / 2vrms to 4vrms in balanced XLR. I want to use my current analog pre amp/ power amp combo and the input sensitivity with RCA is 0.8v. In the past, I found the majority of cdp's to put out too much voltage between 2-3 volts in unbalanced. I recently auditioned a dac which had variable output voltage in RCA/XLR and at 1vrms in RCA the match with my amp was perfect. Thanks michal regards Tarik
