  1. Hi Ted, I guess you have helped me figure out the main question. I own about 15-20 DVD-A and figured I would bring the orginals in the car. The key is that I am starting to purchase more music from HDTracks and so I am wondering: 1. Can I burn HDTracks on to a DVD-R using DVD-A format. 2. Will it play on a car DVD-A player? 3. Is it still in high res or is it just mixed down for the car? 4. The watermark is the copywrite protection, right? If not what is the watermark? Will that be an issue with DVD-A car unit? 5. Is there an easier way to go? 6. Am I just crazy and over thinking this? Okay so I know that the answer to 6 is yes and yes but any other answers would be helpful. Thanks again, Ed
  2. Thank you for the responses so far. I have a number of DVD-A already and from what i have ready about the unit I am looking at it plays DVD-R so I think it would play if I burned adisk. However do I want to listen to one album at a time or would I rather put my 160 gig ipod with Apple Lossless in the glove box and just let it play? If that is the case then get a new unit onsale and just have it play sirius and ipod and save high-res for at homw. Choices, choice. I would be grateful for any more suggestions. Thanks, Ed
  3. Hi all, So as a result of a recent flood that took out my house and both cars I am in the market to replace most of my equepment.I Will have some questions in the future about my home system but for now I have a question about my car stereo. I know that this is not really a car audio site but I am guess that most people hear like to have good sounding music where every they go, plus the question also has to do with hi-res downloads. I was wondering if anybody has a head unit, or knows of one that will play hi-res downloads. I am thinking about going with an old alpine iva w200 because it plays DVD-A and I though that I read here that you can burn your downloads to DVD-a format. Is this the best, only way to go? I know that a lot of units play mp3 and ipod,in fact I will hook up my ipod as well, but will any play hi-res. Any suggestions and/or recomendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Ed
  4. I am a program director working for a non-profit supporting people with Alzheimer's disease and the caregivers. I am not too shocked that there are not a lot of people from the non-profit world here. Probably something to with Profit and not. I have been real lucky and gotten some great deals so that I can have the gear that I have. Ice cream: Heath Bar at the top of any list but I also love Ice cream sandwich flavor ice cream YUM Great thread Ed
  5. Hi Paul, I had a funny feeling that it wouldn't out put at 24/96. I was happy when they told me it could but I still had a feeling that it wouldn't work. I guess I will keep the Apple TV for netflix and streaming itunes and I will get the squeeze box touch to stream hi-res from MC16. Thank you so much for your feed back and experience. I guess now I need to go to the DAC section and ask about getting the signal out of the Touch. Thanks again, Ed
  6. Hi Paul, That is what I was afraid of. I asked the following question to Western Digital: "... I have been downloading a number of Hi Res songs in 88.1 and 96/ 24 and I was wondering if the WD TV could output audio at this rate? Is it able to output it digitally?" and their response was: "Yes, the media player could out at this rate in FLAC format." So I assume that it can but I was hoping that someone here was actually using WDTV at the 96/24. I know that doesn't help but maybe someone else can shed some on light on this for us. Thanks, Ed
  7. Hello everyone, I am new to the Forum, and pretty new to using a computer for an audiophile source. Thanks to this site I have been turned on to some cool stuff and needless to say like all audioholics I am jumping in with both feet. I already bought an USB DAC and MC16. So now I have decided I have to stream music through my house. Of course I want to play the 96/24 files that I have download or ripped from my DVD-A (thanks to another software suggestion) in bit perfect, or at least in the hi-resolution rather than having them compressed. So I tried buying an Apple TV for netflix and because I though I could use software to turn it into a UPnP to stream for MC16 but I couldn't get it to work. So I was looking at WD-TV because I know it connects to MC and I got an email back from Western Digital that says that it can stream and output 96/24 digitally. SO I was thinking of getting one and wondering if anyone has any experience with it. Of course it can't be that easy, so WD decide to NOT have built in wifi (really guys?) and I don't have an easy way to run CAT-5. So now I am also looking at WD Livewire, which sends the internet signal through the electrical wires in the house. Have read good points and bad. The good being that the send is almost the same as hard-wiring for your router. The bad being that it can send extra noise into your power that you might be able to hear through your equipment. So again does anyone have any experience with this? Is it a good option? Or should I just get the squeeze box touch? I have a DAC related question but I know this post is already too long so I will save it for later. Thank you for all of your help, I have learned a lot just reading post. Take care, E
