  1. Roon --> microRendu --> Topping D50 --> Accuphase E-650 The D50 will eventually be upgraded, but it is such a neutral DAC it is a perfect complement to the E650 IMO.
  2. I just bought a Sonoro microRendu and so far I am very happy. I toyed with the idea of trying a Raspberry Pi, but given the tried and true nature of the microRendu it was hard to pass up. Roon sounds great and it was super simple to setup
  3. @wushuliu you should not make claims without evidence to back them up. Simply saying, "google it" is sophomoric at best and shows how little effort you put into your thoughts/comments. The fact that you continue to just essentially roll your proverbial internet eyes and dismiss people when they ask for more information further supports this. You do no one any favors by throwing around accusations/rumors and then not being willing to back them up with further information other than "google it". Enjoy retirement..... I will end it at that. Any further responses I will take to PM. Cheers everyone.
  4. Care to explain instead of just making a blanket statement without anything to back it up....
  5. Well Stereophile just got rid of a bunch of long time employees I believe. I know they are owned by a different company now and cleaning house, but they have been toeing the line of bias for a good long while now IMO.
  6. The bickering seen in this thread is hilarious. Further proves my belief that backing crowdfunded projects is consistently the wrong move. Nice professionalism there orchardaudio /s
  7. I use FreeNAS and it works pretty well. If I had my network more optimized then I would never be able to tell the difference from my previous windows share. Just have at least 8GB of ram if you are going to run z3 RAID. That is what I am running and it works great.
  8. If you listened to the pioneers or any speakers at Fry's then that explains why they probably did not sound good I don't think I have ever seen worse speaker setup than at big box stores. The pios are quality speakers. Personally I have not heard any sub $500 speakers that can best the floorstanders. That is of course, just my opinion.
  9. Yes, those are both very good speakers for the price. Even the FS52 (floor standing speakers are incredibly good). I actually use a pair of the FS52's as my surrounds. The FS52's and the BS22's are probably the best sub-$500 speakers you will find. You could go with the Klipsch and be pretty happy if you are not terribly picky when it comes to audio I owned the Klipsch 2.1 system at one point and yes the desktop speakers were decent, but the bass was boomy and crappy in my opinion. Then again, I thought it was amazing bass until I heard what bass is supposed to sound like Keep an eye out and you will find a good deal. Again, if you are strapped for cash then any cheap logitech speakers are going to be much better than you current speakers I suspect.
  10. I personally cannot recommend logitechs. It sounds like you are are wanting to use powered speakers and are not using an amp with your current speakers. Frankly, if you are using decent headphones then no budget speakers in the 29.99 range are going to compare with your headphones. However, if you are willing to pay some extra money I would recommend the M-Audio BX5a or the M-Audio AV40's if you don't want to spend $200. Other options would be the Audioengine A2+, but I do not think they are worth the price compared to the much better A5. The AV40's are very good speakers for the price, but the BX5a's are in a completely different league for only an extra $100 or so.
  11. I never said there might be compatibility issues. I am asking how Jrivier is working for people with the iDSD. Like I said, I am using the EMU 0404 and it works well. I like it because it has a balanced output. I would like to start getting some DSD tracks, but I want to make sure that the iDSD works well with JRiver.
  12. For people that have the iDSD and are using JRiver, how is it working out for you. I have a lot of 24/192 tracks and my current EMU 0404 is working well. However, I would like to start getting into DSD and would be using JRiver since I have all my music on my server.
  13. Happy to hear you are enjoying it. When Emo puts out a DSD DAC with a similar feature set I might be interested. I have two XPA-1's and an XPA-5 so I know their amps are good products. If it wasn't for the XMC-1 mess that has been brewing forever I think many people would still respect their company. All that aside though, Emotiva seems to be at least trying to establish a good foothold in the market.
  14. Personally I prefer ASIO to WASAPI. Just my personal preference. I dont own a DSD capable DAC yet, but when I purchase one I want it to be as hassle free as possible.
  15. Anyone have any idea if TEAC plans on putting out ASIO 2.2 drivers for the 501? I might send an email to J. River to encourage them to get in contact with TEAC to work out straight DSD to analog through J. River. Otherwise I will have to save up a bit more for the Mytek DAC.
