  1. speakers/ headphones = chalk/cheese imo. i enjoy both as my brain adapts quickly.
  2. ignore me, i thought thread covered the UD-505 too. i really should read titles more carefully
  3. this would be an interesting comparison with the RME ADI-2 dac
  4. Left channel, please dont think i was trying to criticize your post, far from it and i apologise if thats how i came across. i was just curious to know if you had compared the MB variant, as i know the mb/ds debate divides opinions. i too was interested in the project unit but reading on the the other thread, lets just say my interest has cooled somewhat. instead i have decided to wait for a couple of new/recent releases , the rme adi-2 dac and ud-505 from teac. (more money of course). still may consider a used teac ud-503, myself and maybe the Op here should also give that some thought (if budget can stretch?)
  5. i would consider the original micro idsd (not the newer "BL" model). not sure if still available new but i've seen them go on ebay for a shade over £200. i currently use one and have compared briefly to chord mojo, i kept the ifi. come to mention it, a used mojo would also be an excellent choice though you obviously will need a mini jack to rca adapter.
  6. have you considered the used market? i would have thought an ifi micro idsd would compete favorably. also , Left Channel , i believe your Modi is not the multibit variant? have you tried both?
  7. having read this entire thread several times, i dont think ill be buying one of these.
  8. the Qutest is only 5v too! that can chuck out 3v output. does your pre have input gain adjustment? (im assuming this would help)
  9. bought my lcd2 from these guys. would recommend.
  10. so for use with a micro idsd its a bit of a teaser. as the micro sells for roughly £415 which puts it in bracket 2 but just! (and it already has ipurifier built in, asked about this on ip2 thread)
  11. this is probably a daft question. i know my micro idsd already has the original ipurifier built in. would there be any benefit from adding the ip2, or would it be undone by the inbuilt ip1? thanks
  12. to anyone who may read this. i would just like to say how happy i was with the support from AMR/IFI. my unit, i bought 2nd hand and so i had no warranty. AMR/IFi offered to inspect my device for free and then quoted an extremely reasonable price to rectify the fault, when they had no obligation to do so. my thanks to Kenny and Owen at AMR/IFI for great service. cheers Simon
  13. Hi thanks for the quick response. i have created a ticket as you suggested, and yes i am uk based. cheers Simon
  14. Hi my micro has developed awful distorted sound, most noticeable in the low frequencies. i have tried drivers 2.23 and 2.26 and several firmwares but cannot clear the fault. i use the micro as a desktop dac, mainly, but the distortion is there from the headphone out too. this distortion renders the micro as un-usable, its that bad. i have tried using the micro on a different pc with the same outcome. i do not have the facility to use the coax input to see if the problem was the usb receiver. i bought this unit 2nd hand some time back so of course i have no warranty. is it possibly cost effective to get it repaired, or any other suggestions? thanks in advance for any advice offered. Simon
