  1. Can i just say that I'm definitely impressed with this website, it is designed really well and I'm really thankful that you guys have taken the time to post. Cheers
  2. Hiss is steady, have not noticed it change while using the mouse, however if i increase the volume and am watching live TV, the sound drops and picture freezers for a few seconds. If i turn it down it continues playing and sound comes out. One of the other guys suggested giving the amp a clean, so I think that's a good option at this point and then looking into a DAC. Thanks for all the help! J71
  3. Yep, that's the right amp, I think you are probably right in the sense that the amp needs to be looked at. I've tried a few combination of things and I did take the casing off and looked to see if anything was loose (as opposed to cleaning anything). It belonged to my father in law who recently passed away and we shipped it from Europe to Australia with some other pieces (he was a concert pianist). It might be from 1987, but it's too nice not to use! Thanks for all the info and direction, much appreciated. J71
  4. Yeah, it's just an amp, old but very good, which is why i wanted to use it. So i will look into a DAC, thanks for the reply!
  5. Hi all, I recently connected my Kenwood KA-880D amplifier to speakers in the study. I want to connect it to my desktop iMac (intel). Using the headphone jack and a Belkin connection to the AUX in (2RCA), I've connected the Mac. But i get quite a bit of noise and if i turn the volume up the sound drops out. If i use the same connection to the ipod the sound is clean and fine. What is going on? Is it the amp? is it the Mac, do I need to buy something to sit between the two to make it work? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm reading myself stupid on the web trying to find answers (hence my post here!). Thanks in anticipation. juz71
