1. FWIW I bought a Bryston BDP-1. From what I could determine the BDP-1 has better (quieter) power supplies (multiple) and a reworked/better output from the Julia. I never did hear a PK100, but the BDP-1 is outstanding!
 2. I agree this is Chris' site and his CASH list; he can manage it however he wants. I would suggest that when an item is removed from the list that some explanation be given. We read in the reviews why an item is added; based on Chris' opinion. It would be valuable to understand why - again in Chris' opinion - an item is removed.
 3. Edison "proved" the danger associated with AC by electrocuting an elephant. Can't be too safe http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2008/01/dayintech_0104 btw I've wired from scratch two houses and haven't electrocuted myself once (nor any elephants).
 4. I get the concept that uncompressed (eg. AIFF) if nothing else, avoids any issues associated in playback associated with decompressing the file.

I also get why people would choose to use FLAC uncompressed to get tagging advantages.

What I don't get is even if the FLAC file is uncompressed, doesn't the software process the file? After all, when presented with the file the software will recognize it as FLAC and initiate whatever the standard FLAC processing is; no?

If so, do you really avoid the processing step if it is in FLAC format?
 5. Does anyone have the specs for the Auraliti PK100? I checked their site and couldn't find any. Also has anyone done a comparison between the Auraliti PK100 and the Bryston BDP-1. It seems a logical comparison as they have similar start points, with divergent development programs and executions. On the surface the Bryston seems to have more features and I/O options.
 6. Thanks Chris.

The V-LINK does provide isolation between the computer and the DAC though; would this not provide the isolation?

Also could you comment/provide your opinion on the jitter issue. If the V-LINK performs as stated in reviews; it basically eliminates jitter. From a jitter perspective, what is the value in using the SOtM and the V-LINK.

The SOtM is also reported as having very low noise. Are there any tests that indicate by how much?

Thanks Again
 7. I can't speak to the noise issue, but a key design parameter was to minimize anything that isn't directly associated with playback. So no internet, no anti-virus, no anti-spyware, etc.

So tagging wouldn't work and any net connection would be perilous.
 8. Thanks Eloise,

Perhaps I misread, but I thought one of the main reasons for choosing the SOtM tX-USB rather than a less expensive USB option was because of it's low jitter. If the V-LINK eliminates jitter (as claimed in various reviews), what are the advantages of the SOtM tX-USB vs a less expensive USB?
 9. I'm in the process of putting together a music only server. I posted what I was thinking on www.canuckaudiomart.com and someone posted a link to this thread. I like the build here and was working along similar lines.

The difference is that rather than putting in SOtM tX-USB at $339 I was intending to use the MF V-LINK at $169 to address jitter.

What is the advantage of using the SOtM tX-USB vs the V-LINK?

Thanks

Mike
