  2. Looking to sell my powerDac-R, anyone interested please pm me🙏🏻 shipping from Hong Kong
  3. I use farad super3 and others. But currently I use purely something made by friend that uses a large bank of capacitors. I have tried both RJ45 SFP (skipping the optical unit) as well as a DAC (direct attached cable). the verdict is DAC cable is better, as it has femto clock inside too. I have used LumIN A1, sotm ultra neo sms-200 with sps500 as my source before, but I prefer sonore products finally. dac is a DEQX HDP4. happy user waving his happy fan! It’s super hot over here!
  4. Here is my review on Sonore’s OpticalRendu. I am from Hong Kong. I have been using microRendu and then upgraded to OpticalRendu. The comments below pretty much are for both products. Both have been fantastic. They are both the beating heart of my systems. Like many of you here can testify, it has transformed my system from a mediocre one to a really good one. Here are a few points I wish to make about them: 1) Power supply. I have upgraded my PSU again and again and the result is immediately apparent. There is some but not a lot of power treatment inside the unit so you need your own good ones. 2) SFP MODULES. After upgrading to a Finisar SFP module, the improvement has been drastic. FTLF1318P3BTL (a pair) 3) ISO REGEN. Much to my surprise, the USB output could still be improved by the isoregen downstream. I do not understand why but it couldn’t be omitted for me. 4) Upstream network treatment. I didn’t believe until I tried. The better the network condition comes before the SFP that feeds the OR, the better the result is. Better as in less noise and interference, which means sounding less shouty or harsh. One thing you may try is to unplug everything else on your primary router: with just the modem, the router, and your OR. The result may surprise you. Feeding the modem and router with linear or better supply, it would improve again. 5) Distance: shorten the cables between modem, router and the transmitting SFP, as they are all copper wires. Leave the longest traveling to the fiber optics. (If situation permits) it is much better than a long copper cable going to the optical transmitter, then a short short optical cable going to OR. That is what I did and it was poor judgment and wrong use of technology. * As you can see, OpticalRendu, is a very simple piece of equipment, mainly an interface from SFP to USB. It gives you an OKAY result if you use it as it is. But if you put a lot of effort and logic and money to use it wisely, it would really shine. * The money I paid extra to make it sound much better may end up costing more than the signature one, but it was fun and satisfying to build upon it in my own way. If you open up the case, you may just find a simple PCB inside. It was kind of sad at first to see such a sparsely populated board costs so much money. But it also tells you that it is a seriously well designed system with no unnecessary trash in it. Why? Because it reacts so well with its surrounding parameters so sensitively. It is the backbone or barebone of a great system if you are determined to use it well. **** end of review **** I wrote this review because Sonore is so generous to upgrade my microrendu and OpticalRendu free of charge. I was upset when I saw the software upgrade costed 29. Then I was so happy to know that I can do a homework to save the 29 dollars. I would write a review again if the next upgrade is for free. Every penny counts as this is an expensive hobby. Unless software upgrade is free, writing a review is the most clever thing I have ever come across. It’s great when two parties can help each other out. Thank you Sonore for giving me this free upgrade. I am grateful. I would not write this review if Sonore didn’t come up with this offer. I would be sulking but still would pay for the software upgrade. I love this product and I was too lazy to praise or comment about it. If I didn’t like it I wouldn’t bother to complain either as I would just sell it. I only buy and use. Writing takes effort and time and normally I don’t care to share what I learn. So Sonore, you are really smart in my opinion and really think carefully before you come up with this genius plan. I normally would pay for a cookie when I love the coffee from a cafe, as it completes my experience. But if the cookie is for free, I would be extra happy. But if their coffee is bad, i won’t even go drink their coffee. “just because you get a free cookie, you would lie and kept praising their coffee is good” THAT, would be saying to my face, my integrity worths only a biscuit and no more. I am just talking about coffee. Sorry I digressed. future plans: 1) I am troubled by the thermal heat emitted from the OR as well as the Sonore transmitter (I have the first gen one) I may try to use an extender at the SFP cage to install the SFP outside of the housing. 2) Since I have really great power supply now at the upstream, I may simply change the OR SFP into a DAC (direct attached cable) to completely defeat the optical isolation. Just a test I have in my mind. If it yields better sound then it’s a good approach, who knows? Essentially i hope to use the pair as a femto clocked Ethernet input and femto clocked USB OUTPUT. Maybe it’s silly. But I let my ear be the judge. Thanks for reading! enjoy your coffee and your music!
  5. Happy to report that Optical module is working now. Changed to another Ethernet hub and immediately got lights at the Ethernet port. 🙇🏻‍♂️ For some reason optical module doesn’t work with airport express.

  7. Thanks Puma! on the optical module, I only have one solid green light! Nothing more! no lights on either side of the Ethernet cable port! I think that’s the trouble 😔 trying to find another Ethernet port to try! kk
  8. Hello! Just received my opticalmodule and opticalrendu. The unit is stuck at orange led. I plugged the whole set in place of my microrendu unit. Microrendu can register orbiter just fine. It is plugged to an Apple airport express. OM is using 5v (Tried 7V as well), light is green. The Ethernet port doesn’t have green or orange flashing at the Ethernet cable port. But the airport express is functioning with microrendu fine. OR is using SGC 7v supply and turns from red to orange and never green. I know it could mean it’s stuck at having no Internet access? I checked the optical cable, both side can see one red light from the two ports. I suppose it’s one way in one way out. Power cycled my router and airport express and then turned off my OR unplugged SD card and plug it back in. Turned off my firewall gadget. Still stuck at orange. anything I can do? thanks in advance! Really eager to get it going 🙇🏻‍♂️
  9. Really wish to know answers to 1,2,3,6,7,8 too. Especially, if we use microrendu to isoregen, is it unnecessary to use the uspcb inbetween? or it would improve the signal integrity? thank you!
  10. Real question is.. how would this solution compare to the sonore microRendu ... Of course, I am fully aware that they are different products with different capabilities and functions. But to me, the end goal is to get the BEST sound quality, and I would work my way around them, no matter how inconvenient it may be. Like the Regen, there comes the ifi Iusb3, the wyred4sound usb recovery, the intona. (all of which I own or owned) I finally found w4s recovery best for my own scenario.. which I reasoned majorly due to its crystal clock.. perhaps that feature best suited my system's need. I suppose now we have entered the round two of competitions... microRendu, there comes bryston pi, sotm sms200, the earlier aurender N100.. etc.. Probably my fool's wishes: really really hope they would all consider to use a better quality clock..
  11. Hello vortecjr, Would this be linux based? or FPGA based? This seems like an extremely exciting product! one that I've been looking for. Although a bit similar to the Aries, but it looks simpler and I always think simpler the better. Would it support NAA as well?

  13. @jabbr Thanks man! That's exactly what I meant I am using optical Ethernet already but I guess it would be far less important as Regen! Lately I am using those low power tiny pc (powered by Lpsu) and I started off using win8.1. Then I switch over to Daphile, Ubuntu or MPD VOYAGE. Even though I learnt a lot of software skills along the way I don't really hear a lot more improvement in sound ;( @Anotherspin Thanks! But to me that's exactly a hardware change while I am asking for software effect, but it's a great tip as well! @Jud, I didn't know OS on ram is a better route! I would definitely give it a try, too for those Linux system most of them always started off over a USB stick and preload everything to ram anyways
  14. Thanks Freann! I meant, if the regen may make all the software tweaks no longer necessary... Sorry I made it sound so complicated.. If it does I can stop trying so hard to jump around mac, Linux, or using different kind of softwares... That's all :-P
  15. While I am still waiting on receiving the amber next month, I would like to ask has anyone tried to use the exact same system hardware wise, but uses different playback software or OS and found their listening impression to improve or degrade or remains entirely the same after using he REGEN?
