  1. How would one know if they have the upgrade or not? I got mine in the 2nd week of November.

    HQ Player

No, I didn't since it only happens with HQPlayer. Playback is instantaneous with all formats except if I play 24-96 and then try to play a 16-44, playback will wait almost a full minute. Oddly, if the 24-96 song FINISHES playing (e.g. in a playlist) the 16-44 will play immediately.

I didn't even know there was a 3.14. Is there an notification system that I may be missing? Does 3.14 fix the 1 minute wait to play a song from Roon when the sample rate changes?
  4. I don't understand why someone would benefit from Roon outputting directly to the NADAC unless the source files were only DSD. I have found that I need to upscale all PCM to DSD256 to get acceptable sound quality. Keith: I saw another post of yours that says the JS-2 was only a subtle improvement to the NADAC and that you got much more improvement with the same power supply on your PC. Are you not connecting your NADAC via ethernet? If you were I can't imagine how the power supply to your PC would make a difference (ethernet doesn't have the same power induced noise that USB does). Can you elaborate a little on this? I have a NADAC as well but am only using the stock power supply. Thanks!

Hi Jussi, I'm using a Merging NADAC which uses ASIO.

    HQ Player

Hey all, I'm having trouble getting HQPlayer to upsample without artifacts. I just moved from an 3rd gen i7 (CAPS) server to a Dell that has a 6th gen i7 processor (as well as a high end NVidia card). I only upgraded so that I would have all the processing power I needed for future filters etc. My CAPS was having no issues with any filter upsampling to DSD256. But now I am getting all kinds of pops and clicks ranging anywhere from sounding like an old vinyl rip to being unlistenable. I've spent several hours trying to solve the issue in vain. I am quite baffled by it. Here's some data: Roon alone works fine - just outputting whatever the source sample rate is and streaming the FLAC files from my NAS. HQPlayer by itself exhibits the problem - even if the files being played are on a local drive (and not the NAS). If I change HQPlayer to only upscale to DSD128 the problem still occurs. If I change HQPlayer to use a -2 filter (the less demanding ones if I recall correctly) the problem still occurs. The artifacts can vary from 1-2 per second (i.e. unlistenable) to 1 every 30 second (making it deceiving that the problem is resolved until you hear it). Often once it starts it gets worse. Weird issue: When I play directly from HQPlayer, there is a delay before it will play the song and I get a 'Please wait' panel with a progress bar that goes forward/backward about 4 times. Makes me think that HQPlayer is trying to buffer the file into memory, not sure. I've played with the buffer settings from 100 to 250ms without any apparent change. I have tried disengaging the option that uses all cores (which worked fine on my CAPS) but it doesn't make a difference. I am not using the CUDA option at the moment (I shouldn't need it and when I briefly tried it nothing beneficial happened). I removed McAfee virus protection, updated the PC's bios (at Dell's prompting). Not sure what I should try next... any ideas? Thanks in advance!
  7. I am also experiencing random stoppage on DSD sources (but never with PCM). Unlike Ted I am NOT processing DSD files... I thought that wasn't advised... now I need to try it.

    HQ Player

Hi all, I'm wondering if someone can give me some advice. I have a CAPS v3 with an (i7 3770 - I'm guessing this is 3rd generation i7). I am running Roon Server and HQPlayer and upsampling all PCM -> DSD 256. I was surprised to find that my server could handle the up sampling of not just redbook but 24/192 to DSD 256 using any filter. That said, the CPU load is anywhere between 38% - 47% depending on the source file. Would I get any benefit from upgrading to, say, a 6th generation i7 processor? Or put another way, does keeping the CPU load really low make a difference? Something that may be material is that I go out from server via ethernet and convert to fiber for the run to my listening room and then back to ethernet into a NADAC. So no USB in this scenario. Thanks in advance!

    HQ Player

I am never able to get music playing again via Roon iPad app. There is no 'chain' icon in the volume widget (perhaps there will be when the new app is released by Apple?) and I can hit Play a zillion times and music will never start. So I have to remote desktop into my headless PC that runs HQPlayer and kill it and restart it. It doesn't seem to happen only when a playlist ends or source format changes.

    HQ Player

I'm using Roon & HQPlayer together and am experiencing a loss of connection between Roon and HQPlayer. This happens at the end of a song and I have to shutdown and restart HQPlayer before I can play music again. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm guessing it's a HQPlayer bug since restarting the HQPlayer app fixes it.
  11. Nevermind... I've opened up the unit. The batteries are neither marked nor removable. Well it's a nice looking paperweight. :-)
  12. Hey all, I just noticed my unit isn't retaining a charge on either of the 2 batteries. :-( Do you know if these are replaceable and if so, what type of batteries to use and where to get them? Thanks in advance for any help. This might be why my sound has been so harsh lately.... Ian
  13. Question about the Oscar Peterson set: What is the kazoo-like noise that is pervasive through much of this? Is it Oscar humming along? My gawd, it's annoying as hell and ruins many of the songs.
  14. I acquired a SotM battery pack to use with my SotM card in my Zuma. Only thing is: I can't tell if it's working. When I plug in a cable to the power supply on the back of the SotM USB card, there is no interruption in music playback of any kind. I can turn on and off the battery pack and still no sign that the USB card is now drawing its power from the battery pack. Is this normal? Does the SotM card sense the power change and adopt it that quickly that it doesn't affect playback in any way? I also don't hear any obvious sonic differences but have only spent 10 minutes with it - I've been more distracted by wondering if it's working. I suppose I can open up the Zuma and unplug the power connection to the USB card to try for sure, but thought I'd start by asking here... Thanks in advance.
