  1. I use a Furutech Destat III before play and a DS Audio Ionizer during play so static isn't much of an issue. Carbon fiber brushes have always been a frustration. I'm visually impaired but therefore have the luxury of a desktop 10X CCTV desktop scanner I=with which I can view a record. It confirms my opinion that carbon brushes in general mainly move dust around. There's always plenty visible after using a carbon brush. But, if you take an adhesive lint brush roller, run it over a clean countertop a few types to "tame" it, then flick your carbon brush against it, it both cleans the brush and also helps picks up better with no observed, sonically or visually, impact on the lp. Having said that, the brush here intrigues me.
  2. Hey Chris - sorry to keep bugging you. I don't think I missed it but wondered if you got a green unit and, if so, what your estimate of break in time was. I have close to 100 on mine and sounds really good but not sure if it's there yet. Thanks
  3. This may already be well known but it was a real help for me. I'm visually impaired and can't use the remote for menu settings. I can barely see the screen with a magnifying glass 1' away.... I really wanted to be able to compare the filters without having to go to the front panel each time. If you go into the menu and go to the filter settings and select it you can leave it there and scroll through them one at a time. They change as soon as you change without needing to "set" the selection. You can move from left to right and back. When you get to the first setting it stops and therefore makes it easy to know where you are without seeing the display. Still breaking in but sounding really good.
  4. Thanks. A long time industry friend vis Madrigal and Classe just came on boar at %+A. He didn't think it could be done via IR. Good to hear.
  5. Hey Chris. Looking forward to receiving mine next week. Have a really good power cable ready and using an Aurender N20 as the main source. Quick question - Dave told me today (he's not been there long) that there is a way to control the filter selection from an app. That would be great. If you mentioned it in your review I missed it. Can you confirm? Thanks
  6. One of my favorite of his quotes. My favorite story he used to tell is that he was born one of two identical twins. When they were toddlers one of them fell into a well and drowned. To this day, he said, he didn't know if he was dead or his brother was...
  7. Hey Chris + Between your review and Dave Nauber contacting me today, I ordered one. Looking forward to hearing it. Rick Milam
  8. Hi. I'm trying to help a customer. He has an A/D built into his Anthem processor that has shot craps. we're upgrading his preamp and DAC but the only A/D piece I sell and have experience with is the Ayre QA-9, which is more than he cares to spend. Any suggestions on a good choice that would be more in the $1000 range? Thanks. Oh, ignore my system info. it's been update but not showing up on this.
  9. I'm getting ready to order a QNAP. Anyone have an opinion on whether a RAM upgrade from 4 to 8 is worthwhile for this applications? Thanks
  10. Thank you, David. Outside of the basic functionality, affecting the sound is my concern. If that means more money it is justified. I talked to QNAP and they recommend their TS 253 B for the application. It is a quad core Celeron processor. I believe the 563 recommended above is an AMD. I don't know if that's significant in terms of sound. I'm backed up in three different physical locations and have been for years. Some of my stuff is irreplaceable. If lightning hits me, my mother, and another location at the same time there are forces at work that I can't fight.... I'm obviously showing my ignorance here but the minimserver is not something I'm familiar with. I'm willing to spend what it takes but don't want to buy more than is needed. I may try the PM thing. hanks for the reply. My big issue was first of all, does it matter? If so, which it apparently does, what do I need to not impede performance. Thanks again.
  11. I'm thrilled for you to wash your hands of me. It's actually a goal. I asked you a question regarding your recommendation. Notably you didn't answer it, just went into your attack mode which I learned years ago is your style. I couldn't possibly care less about your opinion of cables or anything else for that matter. Your kind of fragile ego that has an obviously overwhelming need to dominate is both pathetic and tiring. Bye.
  12. Ah, now I remember why I haven't been here in six years. Lots of great people. And Plissken. I asked a question. I suppose in your world, I didn't fall to my knees and unquestionably take your advice. Since purchasing my existing gear I've lost most of my vision. Money is more of a concern since I'm disable. Sorry if you don't approve. I don't either. I get a $4,000 injection in my eyes once a month not covered by insurance. Re: the cable thing, we've had some pretty unpleasant conversations about this in the past. First of all, it's none of your business what I choose. Secondly, many disagree with you. I sold cables over the years by handing them to someone and saying take them home and see what you think. If you hear something and like it, decide if it's worth the money. Pretty deceiving, huh. At any rate, I remember why I have avoided this, much as I like Chris and many others. So thanks for the advice and I'll check back in six years or so. And Plissken - never mind.
