  1. Noticed Music Direct has Wadia 121 DAC shipping 3.19 for $1299. Anyone heard it? Any thoughts or expections?
  2. I would like to set up a CD ripping station so that I will always have a dedicated area to rip CDs. As I am mostly a mac user and wanted to use dbpoweramp- I was planning on building my own computer. However, it looks like I can get a basic Dell for $300, so this may not be worth it. My questions are: 1. What drive to use. I have searched many different forums with many different ideas, etc. Most of the information is old or related to drives that I can't seem to find because of there age. I was planning on getting two different drives (Samsung, plextor) for troubled disc. Also do most modern drives support C2 error correction- I can not find a list. 2. I plan to use a NAS for my server duties secondary to decreased power and noise. I am planning on the synology 411 slim. However, I do want the computer to be relatively quiet and low power consumption(not that important- it will not be on all the time- just do not want to use the old computer I have because it is loud and not power efficient.) 3. I will put I large single hard drive in the computer for redundant back up. What format should I use. I plan on using a MAC with pure vinyl/music as a source- maybe one of the new streamers such as resolution audio cantata, sonore, or salkstream, etc. 3. Will probable install windows XP. How does dbpoweramp run on windows7? Do you think I need antivirus software? Computer will be connected to the internet for database connection only. What are others experiences? Any chance Chis wants to design a ripping station sort of like the caps? Thanks for your help
  3. Not sure about the pros/cons of DAC with volume control. Seems like a great idea to me. Any thoughts? Their are a few dacs that are on the horizon with volume control added. Any ideas or has anyone heard these? AMR DAC DP-777 Classe CP-800 Aesthetix pandora Jeff Rowland Aeris Can anyone comment on wavelength audio dac with volume control option added? Specifics/Sound? I have heard that audio research was planning a DAC with volume control-anyone heard this as well. Also any thoughts on WiFi streaming of music vs usb dacs. Some say the future is in streaming of music files such as PS audio Perfect Wave Dac with audio bridge. Anyone know of an update of PS audio digital lens? Thanks
  4. I am in the process of setting up a windows computer as a ripping station to begin transferring my cds onto hardrives/NAS. I have a few questions: 1. I have reviewed the computer audiophile methodology. I eventually want to set up a NAS system. However, first I was hoping to initially rip to usb external hard drive. I was planning on ripping to two separate hard drives for back up. Later, I was hoping to establish a NAS from one of the hard drives. Is there any advantage to initially ripping cds to a NAS instead of a hard drive and then later copying the hard drive to a NAS or other hard drive? In otherwords, how does the accuracy of dbpoweramp for initial rip compare with copying hard drives? 2. Any real advantage of NAS vs a hard drive connected to the network via usb as long as there is a extra back up device? Additionally, I would like to be able to stream from the network without a computer running? 3. How to format drive? I am assuming since I am using windows I will need to format NTFS. Will this work for MAC? I basically want to rip to NAS/hard drive using windows and dbpoweramp and playback using a mac system? 4. Any advice on the drive used to rip CDs. I have read that TEAC or SAMSUNG are the best; however, the models keep changing which makes it difficult to know what you are getting. If I am only using a drive to rip the cd, any advantage to getting a CD/DVD burner vs a CD/DVD drive? Thanks for your help. I have been following this forum for a while and I am finally ready to get things started. This forum has been extremely helpful.
