  1. I think they should get their products reviewed to get the word out. A good (free) option is https://www.tnt-audio.com/int.html
  2. Love that sound - who's the artist and what track is this? Thanks
  3. Sounds great! That track is very familiar- what is the song/artist? Thanks
  4. Hi @hopkins, Prior to owning the PowerDAC, do you try distancing your UPL/DA96 equipment from potential sources of EMI/RF contamination to see if this made a difference in SQ? Thanks
  5. In my case, if I was to buy the PowerDAC-R, I would like to connect it to my active speakers (which has it's own volume control) and also use it to drive my headphones. Ideally, both would be permanently connected to the PowerDAC-R so I would avoid the hassle of changing the RCA connections each time I wanted to swap to the headphones or vice versa. To do this, the only solution I can only think of is to install a RCA switcher like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MLQ6YH4?tag=offthebroiler-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1&keywords=Toslink Switch I'm thinking the RCA switcher would disconnect the headphones when feeding my speakers avoiding any problems with both connected at the same time. I would want to use the PowerDAC-R's volume control for my headphones but bypass the volume control to feed my active speakers but John Brown confirmed that enabling the link (at the rear) of the PowerDAC-R just sets the volume to its maximum rather than bypassing the volume control completely so I would have the volume set to it's maximum when connected to the speakers. Other than having the switcher and extra RCA cables in the circuit (that may degrade the SQ), anyone think there would be any drawbacks in setting it up this way or have any ideas how I could have my speakers and headphones connected permanently? Cheers
  6. Thanks for the review @hopkins👍. For me, it's a pity the PowerDAC-R doesn't have more toslink inputs but I'm guessing this is to eliminate noise? With the PowerDAC-R's apparent source immunity feature then a multiple input toslink switcher such as the one linked below would be a 'no-brainer' to expand the input range - do you agree? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MLQ6YH4?tag=offthebroiler-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1&keywords=Toslink Switch
  7. Hi bodiebill Did you receive your Buchardt A500's speakers as yet? If so, how do they go matched with your ECD set-up? Cheers
  8. Latest from Mads Buchardt: "We have hired a new engineer, one very skilled guy that have been working on a complete rework of the A500s software/dsp/crossover. We have built everything from the ground up ones again, and you really have some crazy improvements coming for the speakers!! This would really showcase how much a speaker designer can influence the sound of a speaker, even without touching hardware. This would be 2.0 mastertunings, and would also be what the speakers would ship with going forward. I'm very surprised this was even possible, so team Buchardt is very happy about this and I hope you all would agree with this 😍 The 1.0 mastertunings is of course still there, so the choice is yours, this just goes to show the versatility of these speakers, and we have no plan to stop here. We should have these 2.0 mastertunings released within the April"
  9. I don't quite get how to control the volume (for directly connected headphones) on the upcoming new DAC. There is digital software volume control but this wouldn't be optimal so would the SVC24 shunt volume control be the best solution or have I misunderstood what's required here?
  10. hi Bob On your video review you said Mads advised that the speakers needed 300 hours to fully break-in. Did you continue to hear improvements to around the 300 hour mark or do you feel it did not take this long? Also, another review noted that the rear module holding the class D amps etc. was almost too hot to touch and was concerned that this might adversely affect the life of the electronics. Have you any thoughts on this?
  11. Hi Bob While I'm waiting for my A500`s to arrive I thinking about ordering the Iso-Pucks. I've read elsewhere that under-loading the pucks does not bring the best out of them, so I'm going to order 3 sets (6 Iso-Pucks) with three under each speaker (plus save me a few dollars!). May I ask, have you tried this with only three pucks under each speaker - if so, any reduction/gain in SQ? Also, just viewed a video from New Record Day about speakers with controlled directivity had considerable gain in sound stage when using extreme toe-in. He enthused about this 'tweak' and the speakers that gained the most from this were the Buchardt S400's. The A500's are a different beast but maybe worth trying if you have the time. See TL;DR For 'how to' go to 6:45 min and the S400's comments: 3:00 & 10:30 min.
  12. Yep, me too. I'm getting the same A500's delivered in May - hope they are as good as the reviews say 🙂
  13. To get a sense of what the DAC is capable of connected directly to headphones (with no volume control control) is it possible to say what the minimum sensitivity would have to be? My Ultrasone Signature Pro's supposedly have 98dB sensitivity and 32 Ohm impedance - any thoughts if this is enough or even too sensitive? Thanks.
  14. I'm interested in the DAPI/Fractal DAC combo (who wouldn't be?🙂). I guess there is no chance that they will offer to retrofit DAPI into the existing Fractal DAC (or if it's even possible?) so will wait for feedback from others on how good it is once available and decide then. Always good to have a spare Fractal DAC, right😉?
  15. For 25Mhz, choosing the AT cut crystal was the only one that had any chance of reaching the MOQ.
