  1. I very much love the Vivaldi interpretation of Dixit Dominus by Negri in the (originally?) Philips recording "Sacred Choral Music Vol. 5: Dixit Dominus RV595, Sacrum RV 586, In exitu Israel RV 604, Introduzione al Dixit RV 635" CD released in 1990. I am really crazy about it. Its like a 300 years old, early fusion of John Coltrane and The Doors ;-). But the sound quality is just awful, spoiling the joy of listening to a loud replay. Any idea which forum I could use to gather some music lovers to join me and approach Philips for a remastering...? Money does not matter... (stupid to say this, but I would be willing to spend more than for another silly 10-20 CDs). Sounds crazy, might be rediculous, but never give up... Any co-maniacs? Any ideas? Thanks guys!
  2. Thanks for the prompt reply, and my apologies, Ted, I did not intend to bother you. As a newbie I thought some older threads would not be read anymore, so I posted two (not 4) identicals. Neverhteless, I find the current way of ripping SACDs far more difficult in terms of equipment (PS 3 et al.) and effort than the ripping of CDs, like with db poweramp. Or did I miss a simpler approach?
  3. Once the SACD patents expire there should be computer SACD player and ripping programs, e.g. JRMC. So the mess will have an end... :-)) SACD patents supposedly will expire in 2014 according to some source I cannot identify anymore. Anybody knowledgeable to comment/ confirm?

  6. Dear DM, can you kindly further detail what you mean by this? Any specific models which do so? References? Thank you very much & best regards Alfred
  7. This one was quite a challenge for me. Firstly, as audiozorro rightly said, best with ASIO (and with ASIO4ALL). But it took quite a while to find out that I had to switch off the W-LAN/ WIFI adaptor in the windows hardware manager before I ran stable, i.e. it requires quite some exclusivity to run reliably (at a dual core 2.81 GHz in a PC that is exclusively set up for audio and internet only, for music download and "accurate rip"). Here a nice utility that helped to identify the source competing for CPU resources: "DPC Latency Checker" of Thesycon at: http://www.thesycon.com/eng/latency_check.shtml Nevertheless, in my setting with Windows 7 (64bit) the AP 192 appeared too complicated to me. And I did not hear any improvement in SQ over Asus Xonar Essence STX, which I found less demanding regarding the resources. Enjoy the music! Alfred
  8. Dear Chris, now I have gone through quite some work and I got it running. Thanks again for your excellent review/ article. Although the only reliable method for me was with ASIO at the setting you recommended in your review. And ASIO4ALL is essential. Now I am really enjoing my "Computer Audiophile" music ripped with db poweramp and played with JRMC. Cheers Alfred
  9. blueixus, never intended to question the top SQ of USB. I just meant to say that I also like to play with S/PDIF and compare both - in that sense I said to be an audiomaniac... kiddingly... Moreover, I am not a native speaker. Finally I am already quite happy with the USB via W4S DAC-2. Sounds better than from a CD played on my "old" Marantz SA-8400.
  10. Yes, USB works with the driver provided by the DAC manufacturer (W4S DAC-2) and with JRMC's Kernel Streaming. But being a real Computer Audiophile maniac I still have to try the "pure" S/PDIF... shame on me... ;-)
  11. Dear Chris, thanks for the link to your review. I still have the ASUS Xonar Essence STX and will try again according to your instructions (next week - will post the results). I found a couple of comments to your post which provide additional support. Back soon...
  12. Actually, I have already returned the ESI. Now I am waiting for M-AUDIO Audiophile 192 and will try that one. Should receive it next week and then I will post the results.
  13. Thanks for your comment. I used the ESI driver as provided, i.e. Windows 7 64-bit version 1.07 and WASAPI on J. River 16. Lots of clicks etc...
  14. Audiophile Friends, I have all my music on the PC in flac files using Windows 7/ 64 bit and J. River Media Center 16 feeding the stuff into an external DAC, fully capable of 44.1kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz, 192kHz input. Now, is there any sound card that provides the respective digital (coaxial) output? I have already tried ESI Juli@, but no success at the higher rates. Also, Asus Xonar Essence STX did not work at 88.2kHz nor at 176.4kHz. A beta version driver claiming to overcome this, did not really fullfil the claims. Actually, I am hesitant to buy any > 200$ sound card that has a on board DAC driving all of the price, while I would never use the DAC. Any sugestions/ experiences are welcome! Thanx and enjoy the music! Alfred
