  1. I just got a great looking Sony Bravia ex710. Problem is, it's not great sounding. In fact, it's just plain horrible. I'll admit that I'm a bit behind on the technology. Need some input. I've only got a stereo set of mackie hr824s (active). Someday I may end up with 5 (dont really need the .1;). Regardless, I need to come up with a solution to get high quality audio out of my laptop and to my speakers while keeping my hdmi connection to my tv. I'd prefer to just keep hdmi out of my machine. I don't want to be plugging 50 different things in to watch a movie. My tv has "optical out". So, please let me know if there are any suggestions. I'm thinking there must be some kind of high quality DAC with optical input that may also take 1/4" or 1/8" (optionally). Also, I'm assuming if i use the optical out of my TV, that applies to any signal (i.e. cable, DVD, Blueray, or antenna). Optionally, is there a way to intercept the HDMI, process the audio, and be totally transparent to the video? That would be the most amazing solution IMO. Please offer any applicable caveats and suggestions.
