  1. Bob, Just closing some loops here... I believe I have the system hangs with Euphony figured out, although I will need to let the system run for a few more days to confirm it. I tried the trial Roon account, but it didn't work. Did some further research and discovered that AMD processors may have an issue with Linux related to idle power supply current or C-states (specifically the C6 state). For anyone interested, the most helpful thread I have found is: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196683#c194 I have an option to disable power supply idle control in BIOS, which didn't work. However, disabling global C-state control and enabling Asus' performance enhancement (which raises core voltage a titch) has resulted in the system now going the longest it ever has. There are some who have used kernel parameters to help mitigate this. I would honestly like to enjoy the energy savings of C-state control, and may switch to an Intel system when Comet Lake products are introduced, but for now I may have a workaround.
  2. I think wires are crossed as far as my issue - I have no MAC, and no wireless connections. I also accept that there could be a network issue, however, most network elements have been changed for troubleshooting and I have another dedicated PC acting as a streamer which is on the same network and runs Euphony as an endpoint with Roon Bridge without a single issue. Ryan
  3. By help, do you mean that the issue resolved? I have made some changes, as above, and am awaiting the next crash. I will try this thereafter.
  4. Bob, you are very gracious, and I will accept any help I can get. I will tell you that I have both someone from Roon willing to run diagnostics on the machine and Željko from Euphony offering to remote in and have a look at some point. To update you nonethless, I have been at this for around 3 months. The network has been reset several times, switches replaced, and ethernet cable from main switch to the Euphony machine running Roon Server replaced. Fresh install with a fresh download of Euphony OS 2 weeks ago, still with occasional hangs. Has been running Stylus with Roon Server off for 4 days without a hiccup, which is far more than when running Roon Server. The Roon demo account is an interesting idea that I have not tried yet. I will try to do this next. I discovered an item in my BIOS that was on which, in Windows anyway, installs an Asus update service that is annoying. I doubt this would have been the culprit, but I have turned that off and am now running Euphony directly off of the USB stick with Roon Server enabled just to see.
  5. Not being a Linux guy, I can only imagine what debugging is like. I like working on computers (have been doing so on Windows for a long time), but time has become something more precious lately, and experimenting has thus far interfered with the enjoyment of listening. There is also the principle question of who should be doing the debugging - me, or the manufacturer of a product that advertised an integrated Roon experience. So... I don't know. I'll see what I can learn about debugging a linux machine and maybe I'll become inspired.
  6. I am at once both relieved and frustrated at this response. Relieved as in it is not a hardware issue, but frustrated that I will not likely find a solution. For interest, I got the following response from Roon Support regarding whether they have seen this issue before: "Generally, Roon shouldn’t cause the entire machine to hang/crash. It is possible that Roon is using drivers that have an issue / are corrupt that other applications aren’t using (we’ve seen this happen on Windows), but the underlying issue in these cases isn’t Roon, just what Roon is trying to interact with." It would seem that Roon is not playing well with some part of the Linux OS that is common between Euphony and Audio Linux. In my case, with a whole home Roon based system and fickle users that will readily give up rather than restarting the server, I will likely have to switch back to a Windows Server environment. If I learn anything more, will update.
  7. It seems that most people here are using Euphony Stylus, but I am interested so know if there are any using Euphony with Roon Server, as I am having some issues that are likely related to the combo. I have a dual PC setup, with Euphony running Roon Server on a dedicated machine, and a streamer using Euphony with either Roon Bridge or Stylus EP. My issue is on the Roon Server machine, characterized by somewhat random system hangs every 24 to 48 hours or so. Originally thinking it was a hardware issue, I have replaced every piece of hardware excluding the processor and hard disks, including ethernet cables, the HDPlex linear power supply, the DC-ATX converter, memory and the mainboard. The exact phenomenon has persisted through all of these changes. I have run the system with Stylus instead of Roon Server for up to two days without any incident - I am currently extending this to be confident it is a Roon - Euphony interaction problem, and am at the 2 day mark without issue yet. The current system consists of an Asus Strix B450-i gaming MB, Ryzen 1700 processor, 16 GB of crucial DDR4 2666 Ram, Samsung NVME boot disc, Western Digital m.2 ssd music storage all in a fanless HDPlex case (although previously used a high end active cooling solution). I have an nVidia GT 710 graphics card, but I only physically connect it to problem solve, running graphics free else-wise. I have been in contact with Euphony support and provided system logs (which I can reproduce here), but they apparently don't show anything suspicious. I am currently working with Roon to see if anything can be done. Anyone here have any similar experience or thoughts?
  8. Hi audiobomber, Not yet. I have to drive a ways to get to the dealers, then hopefully work out a deal where I can demo the products without my streamer in the mix. Now that I know others are interested, I will make it a point to post followup when it happens. I would add that the Simaudio guy I spoke with at RMAF seemed enthusiastic that there were technical advantages to having the streamer in the DAC, but the proof will ultimately be in the listening. Thanks.
  9. Well, I suppose that I will have to report back after I do some experimentation. About to establish a relationship with a couple of nearby dealers and see if any demos are possible.
  10. So, I am on the path to doing this experiment for myself, but have been burning to ask this question of forum members here: I have a Roon Based playback system, and have found the best sound quality to be a two PC based system. Roon core on a dedicated PC, with a linear power supply, Win Server 2019 GUI, and audiophile optimizer - and a second streamer PC, also on linear power supply, Win Server 2019 core, and AO with USB out. All of this into a Direct Stream DAC from PS Audio. I have become intrigued by certain DACs with streaming built in, wondering if the time/energy and cost of a separate streamer to be worth it (especially considering the cost of the Windows Server OS). At RMAF, I got a lot of different opinions - The Simaudio and dCS guys seem to think a separate streamer is not worth the cost while anyone who makes a streamer says otherwise. From my perspective, I would be willing to spring for a dCS Bartok or a high end Simaudio DAC (upcoming model to be positioned below the 780d) if I could both improve sound quality and eliminate an extra box. Has anyone here compared a streamer built around a PC running Windows Server and AO (effectively acting as an Ethernet to digital converter) to an ethernet direct connection on a high end streaming DAC? Thanks for your opinions in advance.
  11. I installed 2.10 beta mainly because of the RoonBridge shell replacement. I had been running RoonBridge on a WinSrvr 2012 R2 machine with AO 2.0, booting to a command prompt. I honestly wasn't expecting any change, but was pretty shocked that things sounded better - more air and separation on some test plays of vocal jazz tracks. Don't know if it's the shell replacement or other tweaks in the beta, but good stuff so far...
  12. After some exchanges earlier in this thread, I am now running Roon Core on my home file server (no audio optimizations) and my previous "audio server" connected to my DAC is now converted to really just a player, running Roon Bridge on AO 2.0 with only a command prompt (no shell). The sound quality is better than before, having been using JRMC on the AO machine directly connected to the DAC, so I am really not complaining. However, outside of adding additional software such as process lasso or HQP, are there any optimizations that can be done on the Roon Bridge machine? For instance, is there any advantage to a shell other than the command prompt?
  13. Thanks for that information... it is much appreciated. Your setup is very similar to how I would be using Roon, so it is reassuring that things work as conceived. In my case, the PC that will be running Roon Server also serves as my home's file server. It runs Windows 10, so I'll have to see if I can run some iteration of AO 2.0 on that machine (when released) without interfering with duties other than audio. I'd rather not have 2 machines on all the time, but adding a second PC as a dedicated music server is always an option. I would imagine that, as the Roon control app is interfacing with the Roon core (server), whether or not there is a shell replacement for Roon Bridge on the endpoint machine wouldn't matter, no? Ryan
  14. I have been following the Roon developments with interest, as I would like to move to that program and have been waiting to see how it would integrate with Audiophile Optimizer and Windows Server 2012 in core mode. The posts above answer some of my questions, but lead to others. For example, it seems that the above are meant to be applied to either the full version of Roon or "Roon Server" running on the music server that is directly attached to the DAC. But what if I would like to run one of those programs on a dedicated server that is different from the Audio device/PC that runs WinSrvr and Audiophile Optimizer as I do now? It would seem like "Roon Bridge" would be ideal for that situation, but is Audiophile Optimizer in Core capable of running this and providing benefits for doing so? The more open ended question for Phil is: for those of us who store music on a centralized NAS or Server with multiple networked renderers/devices that access those files, one of which may be an audio PC with WinSrvr 2012 and Audiophile Optimizer, what is the recommended configuration for Roon? It is my understanding that there can only be one Roon "core" which I presume to mean the device that is running Roon or Roon Server. Thanks! Ryan
  15. I am sorry for the delay...I don't frequent this forum as much as I used to. I am presuming you got into the registry ok? Once there, there is a list of expandable headings in a pane on the left. Start with hkey_local_machine and then expanding each sub heading as above. When you finally get to winlogon and click on it, you will see a list of keys in the main pane. One of those will be for Jriver. Doible click on that, and you will see a string of text containing the Jriver version number - it will be 20 if you had that previously. Manually change every 20 to 21 and you will be all set. Ryan
