I am going to purchase a Laptop for the sole purpose of running J river and using as a music server. I have an NAS which contains all my files. I want a unit that will pass the DPC Latency Checker right out of the box but am having trouble finding any information on Laptops that are good for audio. Does it matter will any laptop work or do you have recommendations? Any comments or guidance are greatly appreciated. The DAC is will be using is the Mytek 192 Thanks!!

Well I've done some research and some listening and am liking two systems . The Meridian Sooloos and the Qsonix Q205. I like the Meridian software better and it's ability to provide Rhapsody and on-line radio. But from what I understand you must have the Meridian 800 series digital interface to get the best sound out of the unit. Has anyone used this system running straight to a DAC or is there a way to bypass to get the best digital out? I also liked the Qsonix system but at this time they are not supporting on-line content. Also anyone have any comments on Rhapsody sound quality? Thx

I agree . I'm hoping for it to sound as good as the Ayre and for high-res files better. So far not happening . Any thoughts on dedicated mac mini versus MBP ? Still confused about display options if I go that route.

The plan. I'm going to go listen to the Meridian and Linn digital offerings. I'm also going to implement the changes recommended by Barrows and have except Nordost cable but should arrive later in the week. I'm thinking now that Thunderbolt external hard drives are out of getting a Mac Mini and a Thunderbolt External hard drive for music storage. My issue there is a functional display. The software i've tried to date to use my Ipad2 isn't smooth enough or allow access to everything needed. Reference Pure Vinyl i am very interested but would love to listen to a few files burnt from quality systems before dropping 3 to 8k on ADC gear. Thx You are right on reference good phono stage. My vinyl side is stunning to my ears. ARC REF2 Phono Pre w/VPI HR-X 12.7 arm and Clearaudio Stradivari V2 MC Cartridge. I'm not thinking Napster but it's it true that I purchased or created a file and I should be able to share or give it to who ever I want. I must be doing something wrong. I'm thinking dedicated Mac Mini .

Ok Probably going to get blasted here but here it goes. I'm confused. I don't spend enough time on CA to get this right yet I want a reference system that actually sounds better than red book CD. Is there a company or store that will setup a computer for me that works with my system? Also seems to me it would make sense to create a web based library where we could share files. Last question anyone here know of a company that will record audiophile quality vinyl to digital? Thx My current system is MacBook Pro running Puremusic going to Ayre DX-5. Preamp is ARC REF5.

I cannot get my DAC to play FLAC files. I went thru the troubleshooting suggestions/directions posted for Pure music but nothing. Must be something simple I'm just missing it. Anybody out there running Mac with Pure music to an Ayre QB-9 or DX-5 that has solved this issue? Thanks in advance for any help!! John Issue solved. Thx anyway.
