  1. I just came across some info on the Calyx DAC 24/192. Reviews seemed to be favorable and it sits right at the $1500 range. All the numbers seemed good for output and sampling. Any thoughts on this model?
  2. I know one could spend a lifetime reading articles and forum opinions about what is best in the world of computer audio. All of the talk about whether to connect via usb or toslink, to use iTunes or not (and its output rate), hardware output rates and various DACs. I am trying to make sense of it all and not feel paralyzed. I have a Peachtree Audio Nova connected to my Mac Pro via usb and running thru a pair of B&W 685s - all in my office at work. And I`m not complaining. But I want to put a system together at home (in home office). The starting point for this new system is a 2010 Mac Mini (headless). I`ll be using it solely as a music server. But I don`t know what the ''ideal'' connection method is with the Mac Mini. Next, I need a DAC. Any suggestions in the $1500 range? What key elements/features should I be looking for? I am confused with all the talk of 24/192. That it`s possible to get via DAC or not possible if using iTunes, or...etc, etc, etc. I will use iTunes, so what should I worry about or not worry about. I`m guessing that`s about it. I`ll probably go with Rotel for a pre-amp and amplifier, and B&W 800 series towers. But still researching it all out.
  3. I have a Peachtree Audio Nova and can not say enough great things about it. But I am curious to know within the realm of debate... Is it better to use the usb connection or toslink connection from the Nova to a Mac Mini? From what I`ve read, port jitter and cable length from audio unit to computer seem to be the two main concerns in deciding. And that it`s also dependent on which DAC being used. So perhaps it would be good to hear from anyone with a Nova and what your preferred hook-up method is. Thanks in advance.
  4. My current set-up is a 2010 Mac Pro running iTunes with my music files/library on an internal HDD within the Mac Pro bays. Computer is connected via usb to Peachtree Audio Nova powering pair of B&W 685s. I want to free up my Mac Pro as I am adding some to the audio system - putting in a Rotel amplifier, moving to 800 series speakers and a subwoofer. Will the following work (if so/if not, thoughts or ideas please): Get a Mac Mini. Add my music library/files to its HDD. Connect the Mac Mini to the Peachtree Audio Nova via usb. Use remote desktop on my Mac Pro to control iTunes on the Mac Mini. I know the music files to the Mini is no issue. And connecting it is the same as with my Mac Pro. Really just wasn't so sure what my screen options were, as I don't want to deal with a monitor for that system, I don't use iPhone, iTouch or iPad and only other idea was if I could get a touchscreen. But if remote desktop will work, it's problem solved. Anyone familiar with remote desktop - do I ever need to hook the Mac Mini to a monitor from day one unboxing or further on for any reason (perhaps to initially migrate the music files onto it?)???
