Hi

I share your apathy towards the multi-channel world. I'm only interested in 2 channel Hi-Fi, but I do want to be able to connect a wide range of A/V sources.

After a long search I found the Atlona HD577 HDMI Audio De-Embedder. This strips the digital audio out of HDMI and presents it as SPDIF. It then sends HDMI video on to the display in the normal way. I use this with a standard HDMI switch to connect PS3, Apple TV2 and Sky HD, etc to my faithful Musical Fidelity KW DAC.

I couldn't be happier. You get all the switching benefits of an AV processor without any of the stuff you don't need. I was worried that all the processing would present lip-sync problems with video, but hasn't been a problem.
