  1. Has anyone had any success with a DAC 8 in windows 8? A new W8 driver is out but it doesn't fix any of my previous issues with Windows 8 on C.A.P.S. Topanga type build.
  2. v2.00.15 Not sure if this is news or not, but it was to me. No real changelog was available.
  3. I got a pair of these in on for an in-home trial (Mag is sponsoring a 30 day in home trial for this model). My first impression is that they sound great. I have them setup in my relatively small TV room (2.1 setup with the sub disabled for now). Nothing fancy driving them, an old Rotel RSX-1055. They are definitely missing the 3.7s "Wall of Sound" trick but the detail and, well, correctness of the 3.7s can be found in the minis. I'll be attaching them to my ARC DSi200/DAC 8 combo this weekend if I find the time to see how they do. Good Job Magnepan! (And my dealer for shipping me a set from his stock instead of making me wait out the now 2 month backlog Magnepan has for these)
  4. The Beatle's remasters restored my faith in what is possible on a remaster.
  5. The Pink Floyd remasters hit the shelves today. Any opinions? I'm putting off buying them unless they're really well done.
  6. Yah, what was I expecting I wonder. I don't even know what to make of this, upsampled, but with a lot of high freq noise? Any experts want to chime in?
  7. The depth doesn't show much in that picture, but they are 40" from the wall. I did try tweets to the outside and the soundstage became pretty muddled so it didn't last long that way. I've experimented a bit with positioning. The best soundstage developed when I moved them farther apart about another 9" each, but they can't really be in that position due to the room. I'm also limited by the building. It's a historic site and I can't attach anything to that rear wall so any difusers/absorbtion would need to be free-standing. I'm pretty pleased with just the irregular brick back there though. The biggest quality jump was with the electronics. I had an A3.24 Musical Fidelity DAC source to an RSX-1560 receiver driving a pair of Polk LSi9's and an SVS sub. Switching to the ARC DSi200 and DAC8 to just the Polks was a gigantic leap in terms of clarity. They certainly didn't embarass themselves being driven by electronics 10x their cost. It made the 3 month wait for the MG's an easy one. The MG 3.7's have added a magic all their own now that they're in. Even though they are somewhat hobbled by circumstance.
  8. This is usually done on purpose. For the last two years, apple supplied optical drives ship with firmware that enables "riplock". It slows the drive down to 2x for dvd/music disks. I believe that includes the external superdrive. Fortunately, there are a great many external optical devices to chose from.
  9. Just a note if you use an iTunes playback app (Puremusic, etc) The new iTunes is pretty different. It switched to 64 bit cocoa. I'm guessing (I havent' started updating yet) that it'll break those plug-ins. A good question is: "Are those plug-ins still needed?" Anyone care to test if sample freq switches in the new iTunes without having to manually change it in midi settings?
  10. They'll definitely need some break-in and repositioning. Unfortunately I'm a bit limited by the room, but I have high hopes PM 1.8a -> ARC DAC8 -> ARC DSi200 -> MG 3.7
  11. Caught this from a Junip Facebook update today, Sweet and Bitter. I like it. I haven't heard of these sessions before now, some of the other videos I've checked out are also very good. Some pretty bad too
  12. The new Bon Iver album "Bon Iver" hit the shelves today, so listening to that. Nothing daring in this and over processed to boot. There is real beauty in the songs in spite of that but it's not a natural sound to a style that would lend itself to it.
  13. Anyone else jumping on this particular horse? I just got word that mine should be in by the end of this month (June). They were ordered Apr. 5th in silver aluminum. Haven't even heard a 3.7 yet, so I'm pretty excited.

    I'm not sure. There wasn't a great amount of detail. They didn't mention "stream" in the keynote however. In your scenario, my guess would be that you download the songs directly to your iPad and play from there.
