  1. Can someone tell me exactly how big the 24/192 FLACs are? I want to make sure I have room!
  2. Thanks for this! Just signed up with CrashPlan. Quick question: CrashPlan defaults to backing up your Home folder. Doesn't it make more sense to have it back up your whole HD, or is this overkill?
  3. I have been unable to listen to tracks streamed to my laptop from my Mac Mini music server via home sharing as it locks up Audirvana and I have to force quit. When I import those tracks to my laptop and play them locally, they play flawlessly. Is this a known issue? Thanks in advance.
  4. Thanks guys. If a two-drive solution is the only proper way to go, it sounds like I'm better off sticking with my current strategy. If I got the Dobro for my primary, I'd have to get another Dobro for backup!
  5. Understood. I thought the advantage of the RAID was that it could do both, but perhaps I am just better off replacing my 2 x 2TB iOmega HDs with 2 x 3TB iOmega HDs and just see what happens once those are full. Not the most economical solution, but it may serve my purposes best.
  6. Time Machine has definitely fit the bill for me, and I have great peace of mind knowing that my entire library is constantly being backed up to a second drive (every hour!). It's easy for my simple brain to comprehend: one drive is for files, one for backup. What confuses me is if I get the Drobo, it acts as one drive (even though it is actually several), so how do I specify in Time Machine that the same drive (more or less) is to be used for backup as well? And even though the 5-bay exceeds my needs for capacity, it seems it also gets you dual protection and USB 3.0. Would that be overkill for such an application? Thanks again!
  7. Thanks for the input about the Drobo. I'll study the website and get a sense of how it works. If I filled all four bays with a 2TB drive, how much usable storage would that give me (taking into account what the Drobo uses for its own backup)? Also, how do you use RAID with Apple's automatic Time Machine backups? That's how I currently back everything up (on two separate 2TB drives), but I'm not sure how I'd have to reconfigure the settings for RAID.
  8. Thanks. I'm not sure I understand how RAID works, so I'm a bit nervous. Can someone help me understand how it differs form my current FW setup?
  9. My music server is a Mac Mini system, with 2 x 2TB iOmega FW800 HDs, one with all my music files (in ALAC format), the other used for backup. I only have 100gb left on the main drive, so it looks like I need to replace both drives with 3TB HDs. But what happens when those fill up? Is there a more elegant solution? I'm afraid to spread the library across more than one HD, as it seems easier to manage when it's all on one drive (and all backed up on another drive). I'm not at all well-versed in NAS, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  10. I have a mid-2010 Mac Mini Core2Duo 2.66GHz with 4GB of RAM. It looks like I can upgrade to 8GB of RAM for only $45. Is there an advantage to doing so? For the most part, I'm pleased with how the unit performs, but it does seem to get a bit sluggish when performing heavier tasks such as converting file formats. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

    BitPerfect

Interesting. I am planning on getting the Fostex HP-P1 DAC/AMP made specifucally for iPhone/iPod/iPad. I wonder if that would allow for 24/96 playback.

Personally, I would pay well for a player that enabled 24/96 playback on the iPhone/iPod/iPad. Would that be possible with an iOS version of BitPerfect?

Thanks, but it's already not checked. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
