  1. Hi, Hoping you can help. I have a 2005 intel macbook which I bought end of line. It runs on tiger. It is getting on a bit now and can only run off the mains these days, the DVD drive is 50:50 whether it will play a disc and often has an error 'it cannot recover from'. I run a website off iweb 06 which I could really do with having more manouverability with. We have no other computer and no tv so this is our only outlet for music/film/internet and my business. I know I need to upgrade but am loathe to go to another laptop as this one gets quite a hard life and i would hate to find myself in the same place with the dvd drive a year or two on. I'd like a desktop so the drives are not moved around so much but my partner does not want a desktop set up in the house as it is difficult to hide away. I am looking at the macmini as an inbetween option and have the following questions: Can anybody tell me (in utter layman's terms!) step by step how to set up my current macbook to read the macmini? I can access a remote keyboard/mouse and monitor from my parents who also have macs. Having read a few posts, i believe I can set it up so that when i start up the laptop, I can choose to boot the mini instead of the laptop and simply run that way using airport. Is that correct? I purely want to use the monitor and keyboard from the laptop and bypass the processor. Previous posts suggest a touch can be used for the same purpose. My partner has a touch so can he access the mini through that at the same time as me accessing through the laptop? What can we actually do with the touch? How would we set it up to play DVDs through the laptop and can we use the touch as a remote to set up and play the DVDs? Or will the remote that comes with the macbook do the trick? Same questions with music. All our music is on a hard drive to keep the laptop uncluttered but when we set up for media viewing etc, we plug the laptop across to an amp I have and some nice speakers. We then either run the laptop itunes or just from the ipod using a normal jack lead. So, if the mini had the music drive attached, can we access itunes on the mini (and the music) via the touch, plugged up to the amp? I would ideally want to do this wirelessly so if we could use airport, how do we do this? Lots of questions I know but if this works it would be pretty perfect for us! Any help (with minimal jargon...) much appreciated!
