  1. Nick, thanks for your efforts. I don't think my problem is much an issue of software versions. (I first want to get the Ayre QB-9 running for 96/24 and lower files, so no USB Audio 2.0.) Since you have a QB-9: What does its display show when you connect it to your Linux computer, but no sound is played? (I would expect "---" but in my case I see a permanent "96".) I now did look into mpd, since it doesn't seem to delegate to aplay. (Using an NFS mounted directory to get some sample music files.) But again I wasn't able to play any files. The mpd log-file contains error messages like ... Error opening ALSA device "hw:0,0" (snd_pcm_hw_params): Input/output error Is your mpd.conf file which you use with Alix/Voyage and the QB-9 available somewhere or could you send it to me? Best regards, Frank
  2. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. Of course I had copied 2 sample files on the machine to test the 'aplay' commands I have posted. But I don't want to play any files on the Alix board. The input is a raw pcm data stream via the network (received by 'nc') which I want to pipe into 'aplay' to send it to the DAC. (The data stream comes from a room correction filter, I can report on this another time. First I really would like to get the QB-9 going at all.) Regards, Frank
  3. No, the files 01.wav and 01_24.wav are in the local directory, and they are correctly found (the output of aplay shows the correct file formats). Frank
  4. As said above, no mpd is used, just 'aplay' (no music collection on the Alix). Frank
  5. I have not used mpd at all. There are no music files on that machine, it gets the data via ethernet and should play them with 'aplay'. But I have tried to change the 'hw:1,0' in my 'aplay' examples to 'plughw:1,0'; that doesn't make a difference. Frank
  6. Hi, I want to test a new Ayre-QB9 which I want to use with an Alix board and voyage-linux. I have used this board successfully with a Trends Audio UD10.1. But with the QB9 I'm stuck before I can begin: When I plug it in, it shows for a short moment the expected dashes "---" in the display. Then the display switches to "96", although no sound is played. The QB9 has all switches in "up" position, so I first want to get it running for 96/24 and below. I attach a txt-file with the output of some commands: dmesg (relevant lines) cat /proc/asound/cards aplay -l aplay -D hw:1,0 01.wav # 44.1/16 aplay -D hw:1,0 01_24.wav # 44.1/24 cat /proc/asound/card1/stream0 cat /proc/asound/card1/pcm0p/sub0/* lsmod | grep snd lsusb -v This is on a current voyage-mpd on Alix. Playing via the UD10.1 on this machine is no problem. The problem is similar with an Ubuntu netbook; but the QB9 seems to work as expected with a Windows XP on a netbook: shows "---" when nothing played, and WinMediaPlayer plays sample 44.1/16 and 96/24 wav-files. Any hints would be much appreciated. Regards, Frank
