  1. First a thank you to all who have taken time to reply to my generalistic query .. and secondly .. an apology !! .. I simply had no idea such high dollar solutions were out there and available .. such as the uln-8 amongst others. However I am doing my homework now and have revised upwards my budget!! I am looking at using Windows .. and something in the order of 3000$ for my ADC, Async DAC, cables and any software needed. That leaves a reasonably wide range of products and the E-mu 0404 would seem a good baseline from which to start looking. That would leave 2k for the DAC .. but I wonder exactly how much of a role the ADC plays compared to the DAC which will process the AD'd LP's .. Would I lose the benefit of an expensive DAC if I processed my Vinyl LP's with a low cost ADC like the E-mu .. or .. as long as they were in 24/192 or similar then would it not matter. The info available on this forum .. including Chris's guide (Thank you Chris) is amazing .. and it has already led me to reavaluate my whole attitude towards computer audio and seriously consider moving towards a computer source for my main listening. I now just have the small matter of getting well over 1000 vinyls LP's to get into FLAC files .. :-) Any recommendations around that budget are welcome as I am finding gear from companies I never heard of all the time on here and it is getting hard to make a shortlist.
  2. Thanks for the replies .. I think you have convinced me to go 24/192 .. I was thinking maybe just stick at 24/96 ... Now I just need a good ADC for 500 bucks ,, :-)
  3. Hello everyone ,, I'm new on here, UK based and find myself here as a beginner to the whole subject of computer music as an audiophile source. Partly through this amazingly informative forum it is obvious to me now how good it can be so the time has come to archive my vinyl for digital replay with the best possible results. My question to all here is what is the best way to accomplish this. Just to narrow down the options and give my starting point .. I have an SME turntable with Lrya cartridge going into top quality phono stage and preamplification and I think I would like to stay with Windows 7 and record to FLAC files. So .. how can I do this .. what do I need ... (if someone can make a very strong case for going via Mac or something else then I may reconsider .. but I do not like Itunes.) Your help will be most appreciated as I do not really know where to start on this one ..and my apologies if there are exisiting threads on this .. I did search but did not find ..
