  1. Great recommendations so far! So it seems like everyone agrees that it's worthwhile investing in a speaker system next? (Vs a better dac / headphones / a proper headphone amp / etc...)
  2. I like how they put pictures of the Neumann head on there. But are there audio files to listen to? (Looking at a spectrum sweep is good and all, but it's not quite the same. Still, good to know that they do their own analysis.) Was this the demo disk you're referring to? https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=catalogdetail&valbum_code=HD666666666666 This is a great idea, (I may actually get it,) but not exactly what I was looking for. I'd like to listen to samples of those tracks recorded through the Neumann head, using different headphones each time. THAT would be a really useful resource. I've been thinking of doing this for some time, I just wanted to check that no one else has already done an excellent job of it already. Loren
  3. When I was shopping for a new phono cartridge, I came across this website: http://daveyw.edsstuff.org/vinyl/cartridges/mm-cartridges/ This guy has done a wonderful job of recording and documenting every phono cartridge he can get his hands on. Is there something like this for comparing headphones? (or any other gear for that matter?) I'm imagining a binaural head with headphones on: http://www.neumann.com/?lang=en&id=current_microphones&cid=ku100_description Has this been done? I'd love to be able to compare the sound of a bunch of different headphones, using the same point of reference. Of course, it would be playing back *through* headphones, but at least we could get a sense of what different ones sounded like. If no one knows of anything like this, I may work on it myself. Loren
  4. Thanks so much! I've actually heard the Genelec 6010A / Sub combo - Quite impressive for little speakers. Would you suggest something that size? (All those companies make a fairly large range of cone sizes..) Also, what are people's feelings toward wall-mounting? There's absolutely no floor space for stands, and desk space is quite limited. Is this ever done? How much do rear reflections affect things in a room this small with no treatment? Thanks again! Loren
  5. Hi everyone, Long time lurker, first post -- great site! I'd love some lower-budget speaker system recommendations. I have: Noisy Manhattan Apartment -----11'x12' Living room full of stuff (No extra floor space at all) -----Very noisy gas station outside -----No acoustic treatment at all (other than decorations on the walls) Current Listening Setup -----Windows laptop w/ all the music -----|-----Media Monkey -----|-----Mostly flac files at CD quality. -----|-----A modest amount of MP3's (I don't usually keep MP3's
